Photographer's Note
Old labourer's cottage, Oudtshoorn area.
Throughout this fascinating country, I have came across abandoned houses, farms, homesteads.
This is another indication that the harshness and isolation of this colonial country, often lead people to move on. In the Klein Karoo water is often a decisive factor for human settlements and livelihood.
Like in many other countries, South Africans leave the country-side and head into towns and cities.
For a visitor like myself, abandoned houses have an allure of lives past, and I often wonder how many stories those walls would tell; if only they could talk :-)
