Photographer's Note
This shot is for Lisa who posted a shot of an old Leyland truck radiator grill . http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Oceania/Australia/East/New_South_Wales/Gulgong/photo1408200.htm
It reminded me of an old London Double Decker bus we saw in Matjiesfontein. An incongruous sight to see in the middle of the Karoo, this old bus takes tourists on a 10 minute tour of the historic village. From what I can find out the bus is a 1949 Leyland Titan, however, I stand under correction.
Matjiesfontein is a unique little historic Victorian village comprising 300 residents. It was founded in 1884 by the Scottish railwayman James Douglas Logan. Matjiesfontein was originally an outpost of the British Empire, a shelter for travellers on the Cape-to-Cairo route. Logan's home was the first house with electric lighting and flushing toilets in South Africa. Situated 50 km from Touwsriver, historical Matjiesfontein once was a popular health resort visited by various celebrities, including Cecil John Rhodes and the Sultan of Zanzibar.

Hi Rosemary
a bold and bright shot that matches Lisa's shot so wonderfully. Nice to think that these old relics of my London childhood are scattered around the globe. Nice crop, full of superbly sharp detailing and character that somehow is not matched by the new London buses. Built to last! Nostalgic and wonderful imagery!
Enjoy your weekend - Brian.

Bonjour Rosemary,
J'aime beaucoup ce plan serré sur l'autobus à impériale. Le rouge vif est bien rendu et on sent bien la texture du métal.

Hi Rosemary
A well known trademark, nicely cropped and a super eye catching vibrant shot in spectacular details, neat and razor sharp rendering an extremely appealing effect. The fiery stinging red works a treat here, Well done.

Hello Rosemary,I must say that your vehicle appears to be in much better condition than the one posted by Lisa, not a speck of rust to be seen here, the bright red paintwork having real vibrancy even after all this time.
The tight crop suits the subject very well,a most endearing shot.
Kind Regards Les.

Philippe

Dear Rosemary
Thanks so much for this beautiful photo. We must be in a Leyland mood :) And this old banger is in much better shape than my poor old darling. Love the vivid colours and textures. The close up works so well here, and isn't it wonderful that it still has the London Buses badge on it aswell? Thanks so much, this has made my day!
Hugs

Hi Rosemary
so kind of you to post this photo on behalf of our friend Lisa :)
what a striking collection of colors, with the red and white I can't help but think of Coca-Cola! yes...advertising works on me :) haha
gotta love the London Transport in blue too!!
As for my last photo, you asked what mountains are in the bg. I hate to say but i'm not entirely sure, but i think they are apart of the North Shore Mountains, like Cypress Mountain and Grouse Mountain.
Its funny to think of them as Mountains...for us in Western Canada they're more like large hills :)
Guess its an obvious case of taking what we have locally for granted!!!
thanks again

Hi Rosemary,
Quite surprising to find so old London double decker in South Africa. And with authentic London Transport logo!
Red paint is quite bright, although closer inspection shows signs of age. Like I mentioned to Lisa, I wish I would see more of such closeups here in TE.

Hello Rosemary,
This is a lovely powerdful "in your face" picture of a fine old Leyland 'bus. I rather suspect that this is a Leyland Titan as many of them were used not only in Britain but exported for use in many places abroad too - see here.
The strong and closely cropped composition certainly gives this picture great impact as also does the limited colour palette. Lovely strong vibrant colours and, as always, exquisite detail and sharpness.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.
