A Profusion of Colour, a photo from Western Cape, West

Photographer's Note

The colourful variety of wild-flowers that grace the west coast of South Africa in spring is mind-blowing. I was not prepared for such lush abundance and found it difficult to do justice to it in a photograph. One of the tricky aspects was the light. These colourful blooms do not show their faces until well into the day when the sun is high and light strong. Today’s post attempts to convey the brilliance of the blooms.

Hi Rosemary,

marvelous flowers in this strong light. The orange ones look like gazanias. beautiful photo, it is a real explosion of colours. I feel some unsatisfied feeling - I have not so much photos of African flowers.

As you say , an explosion of colors ! I lie especailly tour use of the DOF , and the blue sea in the BG . But , may be you could have cropped a part of the sky on the top ?

Ce qui surprend le plus dans cette composition, c'est qu'elle soit totalement naturelle. Les couleurs explosent dans l'image.

Cioao Rosemary
un prato fiorito dai colori fantastici.
Ottimo l'accostamento dei fiori arancio, in grande evidenza con gli altri lilla. La composizione è un vero inno al colore al quale hai unito nella giusta misura l'azzurro del cielo.
Il taglio quadrato, che a me piace molto, esalta la composizione che colpisce per la sua forte vivacità.

Une photo vraiment agréable à regarder et qui met de la joie dans nos coeurs. Une présentation de qualité, dans un beau format carré. l'éclairage est au max et les couleurs sont spectaculaires. Une photo un peu semblable à celle que J'ai déjà présentée, voir. Beau travail.

This is what I call an explosion of colors dominating the frame superbly. a fine straight on closeup image perfectly focused for maximum sharpness. I bet this a sort of picture that would brighten up anyone's day, and the fiery red almost looks unreal to me! such is the power and wonderful creation of nature and this is one of its best show. Gorgeous and a real feast for the eyes, ordinary wildflowers make great! Congrats

I really enjoyed the wider angle of the South Africa wildflowers you posted a while back, Rosemary, and I'm glad you returned to them with a closeup here. The variety of color is really astounding here, but you've also managed to make sense of it by isolating these three orange blossoms as the main piece here and letting the various greens, yellows, and purples fade in the BG. Excellent use of DOF. Thanks!
