Okay, so it wasn't 100% planned that I would take a night shot of this beauty of a city. I was hiking down the mountain, ended up hiking until long after sunset, and was eventually taken in a police car back to the city, but of course it was all worth it.
It started at the summit when I couldn't find my friend. We were looking for each other for about an hour before we finally were ready to hike back. We were told it would take 45-90 minutes, but of course we were up for some adventure as we started hiking 20 minutes before sunset. I had my obligational photo stops along the way, although I was beginning to realize it was getting dark fast. I just couldn't help looking at this view!
At one point my friend went a bit ahead of me and I missed an intersection so I was walking the wrong direction. I went back, couldn't find the trail, then I decided I wouldn't have time to search for too long. I could see the road below and I knew the terrain down there wasn't too rough, so I started walking in a straight line through the bushes and I'll admit I was warm under my jacket right then. I eventually reached the road, ran over to the lower cableway station and was about to start walking down the mountain trying to find a taxi when a police car stopped me and said it wouldn't be safe. So I found out my friend wasn't down yet, we waited for him and the police decided to give us a ride back to the city. All worth it!
This picture was taken about halfway down the mountain in the Platteklip Gorge. The actual city center of Cape Town is to the left, out of the picture. My first South African sunset, well spent in the hills and mountains of Cape Town!

Excellent dusk image with a hint of sunset colours in the sky and the lights of the city creating a pleasant curve. I also like the frame made of the sihouetted hills and vegetation, it creates a sense of place.
Your note made me smile as it reminds me of some of my own adventures. :-)

Wow! What a superb presentation this! The shining city looks extremely unique and attractive from your high and well selected POV contrasting with blue of sky and water. Perfectly composed and very well executed. TFS.

Beautiful shot anyway: There are not many pics from this pov at this time of the day. Lucky you I should say!
