Photographer’s Note

Another photo of the waiters at the function I attended during a conference at Sun City, a casino resort in the North-West Province of South Africa.

Normally I avoid posting more than one photo of the same theme, but I need help with this one! I just don't know if I cropped it right, and any suggestions are more than welcome. (Maybe I should have cropped it closer???)

Like I said before, the theme of the evening was "cool", so everything had a "winter" look to it. These waiters had to serve strawberry punch to the guests by first pouring it through a big block of ice with strawberries frozen into it.

I did not change the color of the photo at all, and only sharpened it a bit. It was shot in very low light, so I had to put the camera on a table (without the waiters seeing me) and used the self-timer to take the shot.

From where I sat, it looked as if the the man behind the block of ice had a big strawberry heart....... :-)

Lovely blue tones and excellent soft colors contrast. A very atmospheric shot. The composition is perfect too...

Perfect shot, henry. I love how all the objects work together, very mystical atmosphere, light and that blue color. This shot is not just one of my favorites but one in TOP3 of all images I´ve seen in TE. Still, I wanted to try tighter cropping – I posted my version to WS.

I quite like Ollie's cropping. It gets rid of the black band at the right. Your compositions is very nice and the colouring creates an atmosphere of mystery shows. Great.

The WS made by Olli is great, but only because your photo had all this potential! The colors and atmosfere are fantastic.

I know it sounds strange but that thing in front of the waiter reminds me of a cartoon X-Ray... Maybe I'm delirious... :o)

Hi, die site maak my spreekwoordelike lam omdat ek nie kan inkom nie. The front of the strawberry coler should have more light, and I would crop away eveertything but the postbox portrait view of the water with the strawberry hart, less is mor, and then the full impact is on your subject, not on the spotlight steeling the show. Ones eyes are drawn to this light and to the dark patch below the cooler. Hoop dit maak sin. Ek sien nadat ek gepos het daar is 'n WS, dit lyk ook baie goed.

This one is more abstract, and I must admit to liking #1 much better. I like being able to see the man's expression in the other. This one, however, is more intellectually intriguing. My mind races to make symbols out of things, especially as the line of the tube through the ice looks like the man's digestive system, ending up in the pitcher!
