Photographer’s Note

The Jane Goodall Chimp Eden sanctuary is on the road between Nelspruit and Barbeton and has just recently opened. They rescue chimps from all over the world most of them which have been severely abused or orphan babies whos parents have been killed. Here they rehabilitate them to be very similar to as if they are in the wild.
Not easy to get photos through the electric fence so this was one of the better ones without any obstruction.

Hi Wanda. An Eden with electrical wire fences? thanks to humans that is what they have to settle for. At least there are people who are trying to bring them some happiness. A sad but informative note and a thought provoking shot showing us this "innocent" in all his/her vulnerability. Its all in the eyes and those expressive hands. regards. Klaudio.

A superb example of an animal portrait. The quality of the photo — the composition, colors, and resolution — are exquisite. You must have had the lens and full extension to get so close.

A funny and nicely framed portrait of the chimp in a nice pose (I like his hands!). Good DOF and sharpness isolating the subject perfectly from the BG.

Hi Wanda, it's a good pose, and with no obstruction. It's very good, it looks very natural. I like the "thinking" pose you have of this chimp. Very good colour seen in the shot with excellent detail picked up from the Chimp.

I just can't believe these chimps are our ancestors... The only thing I have in common is the haircut... :-P)

Good profile portrait with a perfectly blurred background. The pose and the expression show the animal in a natural and undisturbed state-of-mind. Light is good and so are the details.

The way you have captured it, there's no sign you were behind a fence.

Heel mooi geportreteerd en je kading is erg goed gekozen. De detailering in zijn vacht is werkelijk schitterend met onzettend veel detail en scherpte. Zijn handen, hoe mooi, hoe menselijk en die ogen...heel bijzonder, uitstekend fotowerk..!!!

hello Wanda,
very impressive result considering the difficulties you describe in your note. the tight framing creates a very strong sense of presence, and not only literally - after all, chimps are among our closest "relatives". superb quality, every hair is sharp and well-defined, and nothing is over- or underexposed in what seems to be a fairly harsh light. excellent work, my compliments.
