Photographer’s Note
Hello everyone!
The place this pic was shot at is called 'Umhlanga Rocks' and is located in Durban.
As you will find out further on, this is the Indian Ocean, which let me tell you, is EXTREMELY rough! Trying to get a pic anywhere near the sea is a challenge as the strong winds create fairly big waves, which when break, constantly splash water onto your lens/filters!! There's also a very good chance of getting all your gear soaked, if you're interested!
If you ever plan on visiting this place make sure you're well equipped with cleaning cloths, you'll need them, lots...!! :)
A little info on this place courtesy of Wikpedia :
Umhlanga means the place of reeds in Zulu and is named after the Ohlanga River which reaches the Indian Ocean three kilometres north of the town. Umhlanga was formed in 1972 through the merger of Umhlanga Rocks, a seaside resort town, and the suburb of La Lucia.
Umhlanga has become the focus of development in the greater Durban area with many businesses relocating offices from central Durban because of urban decay, similarly to Sandton forming the new centre of Johannesburg. In line with this, Durban International Airport will move to La Mercy, near Umhlanga, and reopen as King Shaka International Airport in the future.
Umhlanga Rocks has many luxury hotels and apartments right on the beach including the Cabana Beach Hotel, the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Umhlanga Sands Hotel and Pearls of Umhlanga apartments. Many of these have views of the landmark lighthouse.
I unfortunately did not manage to get a shot of the lighthouse... :(
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you like!

Hi Costa, Well composed near/far landscape. The dark colours of the rocks and clouds make this a threatening image. Only the red/pink of the sky offers some warmth. I wonder what it would look like with a shorter exposure perhaps showing more of the rough sea you describe, rather than the almost misty look. cheers, Steve

Great work Costa!
Amazing how much 'smokey water' effect you achieved in only 15 seconds...
The composition is very appeakling, sharp detail, and good tonal levels. I have to wonder if maybe a ND grad filter may have given you a bit more contrast in the sky...
Either way- great work!

P.S.- I used to live in Mhlambanyatsi, Swaziland (although I was too young to remember much)

Hello Costa
I particulary like the blur effect caused by the longue pause and the colors are beautiful. Good sharpness and details too. Great shot.

hi costa
a dreamy place. good POV and sharpness. i like the little bits of rock peeping out of the haze. but, the color of the sky is not justifiable. good work done...
cheers

Hi Costa. Incredible composition in which the dark shapes of the rocks form a mysterious foreground beyond which stretches an even more mysterious body of cloud like whiteness. Amazing result thanks to the 15secs exposure. It's almost as if we are looking at the world below from some high vantage point. Very creative. Regards. Klaudio.
