Photographer’s Note
Another photo from my recent visit to the lion reserve near Johannesburg (www.lion-park.com).
This was taken late in the afternoon. We were privileged to be there when the lions started roaring, calling out to each other in the different camps.
You have not lived until you have stood next to a roaring lion! The sounds it makes, seeming to come from the very deepest parts of its body, is unlike anything I have ever heard before.

50-500 on your nikon = 75-750? wow. i guess those lions were quite away from you.
i am not a big fan of pics with animals, but seeing two lions and their teeth on one picture it is something ;) I'd prefer to have deeper DOF to see the other lion sharper too, but it is ok this way too. nice shot

Quite a couple of youngsters you captured here and even I'll never heard the sound you describe, can I image how it must be – especially after seeing your photo - Very good capture and cropping - thanks for sharing Henry.

Why don't we ask Adam to add a sound feature here..
This is great, Henry, perfect timing, perfect capture, a great shot. I can imagine how a double roar sounds. Very very well done.
I couldn't stop my self from a WS..

Too bad Adam didn't implement the "attach a roar" feature yet ;-) This is again very impressive, Henry. I like how the two lions are seen in profile, but from slightly different angles; the teeth of the one closer to the camera are particularly impressive. Nicely presented in "panoramic" format with once again great color and detail, well done.

An incredible shot, Henry. You captured the lions perfectly - and with a beautiful green background. Well done.

Very good colors indeed. Their overlapping blocking is neat an dtheir open mouth and fangs are cetainly a plus. Good shot.

Uh huh! I know what you mean. At least you had fences protecting you. Try being out there when there is nothing between you ... Scary stuff. A camera is the last thing on your mind. This is a stunning overall shot - excellent composition, but I like the WS done by Yitzhak. Nice one Henry!

They really look like they are roaring, almost in harmony. The angle makes it seem you were very close to them, great shot again.

This lion series is just excellent Henry.
What a capture of these "communicating" lions.

Your use of composition here, Henry, and of tone and color really brings attention to the mouths--you've created an image I can hear!
