Its a real treat to see a steam locomotive in action.
A steam locomotive is a railway locomotive that produces its pulling power through a steam engine. These locomotives are fueled by burning combustible material, usually coal, wood or oil, to produce steam in a boiler, which drives the steam engine.
Steam locomotives were first developed in Great Britain during the early 19th century and dominated railway transportation until the middle of the 20th century. From the early 1900s they were gradually superseded by electric and diesel locomotives.

Hi dear Wanda
Wow really? I should go there as soon as possible.
When I was an elementaly school student, I shot SL so many times. This is so powerful image full of vigors and impact in nice tight frame. Strong back sun light adds great atmosphere too.
All the best and have a good Saturday! Takero

Hi Wanda. Welcome back. You have used the late light beautifully here accentuating the steam, the smoke and the metallic body. Effective POV which gives import to the power of this metal beast. Regards. Klaudio.

Welcome back to Far West, or better says to Far South.
I like the mood of this shot with the placement against the light putting in evidence the steam. And as bonus the golden lightning reflected nicely contrasting with the blue sky.
I think I would have more handled this shot in a horizontal frame, but I recognize it is fully working here as it is, with the view on the smoke coming out of the locomotive.

Spectacular capture of this old steam locomotive. I like the warm golden sunlight over the old steel. Great for still being in use.
Have a nice wee end.

Great how the black smoke at the top is echoed in the white smoke below. Good slightly low pov to bring out the majesty of the machine. The fact that it's named Susan brings another smile. Susan the steam train engine? Gotta love that!
Great to see another post of yours.

Ciao e buon fine settimana

Terrific atmosphere, this is a wonderful photo that captures some of the romance good old days of train travel in earlier times.... the steam blowing, the chugging of the locomotive and the coal smoke coming out the stack, even a whistle blow for good luck. Fantastic capture of this classic loco and proud Susan chasing steam in late afternoon sun. Love the viewpoint and use of the diagonal, pin sharp and the warm colour has been very well captured and processed with wonderful touch of red. A great photo filled with steam and energy expertly caught and I could stand there and watch this beauty all day. What a great contribution to TE, simply Delightful stuff. My congrats, TFS

this is a fabulous picture, you've captured the dynamism, force and details of the steam engine in a most accurate and attractive way. The framing is very effective and the impression of movement we get is breathtaking. I like very much the blue sky as a backdrop for the smoke and also the way the warm light plays with the dark tones, bringing out interesting details and textures. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

Well what excellent colours and tones throughout this shot - so warm in the late evening(?) sun. Well composed with a POV that provides depth and a sense of scale and drama. the highlights on the cab of the engine are a little on the high side but that is easily corrected in post processing these days. A magnificent shot - really like it.

Hello Wanda - Superb light and a good diagonal composition taken with a WA lens makes this a dramatic and powerful shot. Despite her age Susan looks like a very modern girl.... feisty and strong. I like that. Warm regards Rosemary

Wide angle close-up looks really good, showing the cloud of smoke rising high up. Backlight illuminates this side of the locomotive making all dark details show clearly.

You're capturing well this scene by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the steam locomotive with classic/tasteful design and the power. It's also impressive in gray smoke from smokestack/chimney and white steam from blastpipe. There are many steam locomotive fan in Japan.
