The view from the veranda of the guesthouse where we stayed for the 2 days we spent in the Golden Gate vicinity.

The lacework you see is called “broekie lace”. Translated, it means panty lace. This cast iron lacework was very popular here in SA in the late Victorian era. I find this rather amusing. Everybody was dressed oh so prim and proper, but the verandas were flaunting lace panties. How scandalous! LOL Suppose they had to express all those suppressed desires in some way, eh?
