This photo was tken on the road between Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, and berbera, the main port of Somaliland. There was a small group of nomads walking their camels alongside the (fast and well maintained) road in the direction of Hargeisa. We stopped and the nomads posed proudly with their animals.
The countryside is very beautiful by this road, rocky hills and mountains, broken by green wadi's (dry river beds), full of papayas and citrus, tended by settled farmers. In betwen one would see small groups of camels and herds of sheep and goats accompanied by their herders.
There are also small villages by the roadside, with a mosque and maybe a sheikh's tomb, a petrol station, some shops and cafes. |
