Photographer’s Note
That's the most road between Hargeisa and Djibouti. It's impassable in wet seasons(every year they have two), so don't believe "Lonly Planet" that's very easy to get to Djibouti from Somalia (actually Somaliland).
The road is about 270 km long and it takes over 24 hours to pass it by such a truck that you can see in the photo. It's two times quicker(and more expensive) when you go by Land Cruiser, but you won't see anything - they go in the night as you mostly pass through the desert.
It's quite safe there as it's in the north of Somalia in independent, but not recognized, region called Somaliland. You have to stop there many times by the police stations, where your driver hands some money to officers. It's quite normal there and I wouldn't call it a bribe.
