Photographer’s Note
This is an old building which was built by the Portugese located in the heart of Freetown the capital city of Sierra Leone.
History:
The name Sierra Leone was adapted from the Portugese name for the country: Serra De Leoa. The literal meaning is "Lion Mountain." The name Sierra Leone dates back to 1462, when a Portuguese explorer sailed down the coast of West Africa. There seems some dispute whether it was the shape or climatic conditions that influenced Pedro da Cintra to come up with “Sierra Lyoa” meaning Lion Mountain.
In 1808 Sierra Leone became a British Crown Colony and then gained independence in 1961.
