Photographer’s Note

Welcome! That was the greeting we got from the village chief and the rest of the people in the small Sierra Leonian village of Mabayo. And we really felt that they ment it.

Mabayo, a samll village with about 600 inhabitants, a little to the north in the civil war-ridden country. They don't have much. They works in their small fields and harvest what nature brings them. Once in a while, a merchant comes to the town.

But believe me: They know how to celebrate. And they know how to make a visitor feel welcome.
