I almost missed this one. This is the e-mail I sent from the airport the day after I took this:

"My camera was still giving me error messages after getting sprayed by a big wave 2 days ago, but I was going to my favorite spot on the beach to enjoy the sunset, and hope against all the odds that the camera would start to function again. I already knew exactly where I wanted to be for this shot and was thinking to myself earlier that if I got lucky with a good sunset here, it could be the best beach photo in my portfolio. I found out that the tide was at it's peak for the year this week, and it was highest at sunset. I found the spot 2 days earlier by jumping up on a rock sheltered by a huge boulder to avoid a big wave. I looked down and there was the perfect scene for a photo. I never would have found the spot if I hadn't jumped up onto the rock to avoid the waves at high tide. The high tide still made the shot tricky. I waited until the sunset was at full glow and pressed the 'on' button and waited. The camera magically turned on! I couldn't believe it! I had everything ready just in case, and jumped up on the rock with my tripod. Huge waves were crashing against the big boulder next to me, but it was shielding me really well from the splashing. I got nervous when a couple really big waves crashed in and wondered if the tide had peaked yet. But the sunset was spectacular and I started shooting, timing the surf movement as much as I could. I kept a watchful eye on the big waves to my left and never got hit. In the end got exactly the image I was looking for here. I can't really describe it and will have to show it to you when I get back. I walked back feeling fantastic with the satisfaction that I captured the 'feel' of this magnificent place. I can share it with you and say THAT's what it feels like there. THIS sums it up. Much better than my attempts to describe it here."

Hello Micheal. Wonderful capture and very interesting story to match! I love the long exposure and the resulting details in foreground rocks and distant skies to boot. I also have to identify with your experience because I have been there many times only in much different places. Thank you for sharing your thoughts in this experience. The sensations you get in the execution of such a captured scene IS the reason we return to do the same all over again. Beauty must be captured....and if its not done by you then someone else will....

Cheers

Paul

Hello Michael
This is superb again, you take a capture, make it to the style you like and present it for us to gasp. Beautiful colours with the top palm tree showing a lovely blend of softness. Water and shadow detail is incredible.
Well done

Michael: this is a stunning, almost surreal scene. Couldn't be more idyllic. cheers on the H2D. regards, c

Hi Michael,
I cannot critique your photo. I can only give my comment. It's splendid as always.
The shots are stunning. But one query I have regarding your photograph. All your shots have an effect like painting which is ofcourse superb. How could you do this? Atleast a little bit idea of the technique will be very helpfull to me.

just amazing shot..
great place, really nice composition..

dear michael
thanks for your critic about my picture. Yours is really amazing a great stunning effect. Wonderful colors and eyecatching details. Best regards ihsan

Very nice exposure Michael. The light is indeed great and the detail and colors in the sky - and in the front - are marvellous. I even like the blurriness of the palm tree. What I don't like is the intrusion from those branches in the right. They ruin the perfection of this one.

Hi Michael,
if these are the outputs of a Medium Format Camera, hats off! I am speechless: the border between photo and painting is hard to find.
Congratulations and greetings from an envious "APS-C format, 8.2 MP" user. Dario.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike,
one more fantastic and meticulous work!
You did what you wanted to, on the right way!
The water look like clouds behind the peaks of mountains!
Who may say that doesn't like this picture?
One more painting for TrekEarth!

Thank you!

Hello Mike,
I like this photo that much that I would almost enable the smileys to award you one:)
I will say nothing more, just sit, relax and enjoy the view...
Thank you,
Nelu
