The Indian Ocean Seychelles’ 115 granite and coral islands occupy a land area of 455 km² but most of the islands are small and can sustain very few people. In an attempt to increase land mass which is both suitable for occupation and economic development, the government, in tandem with interested parties, embarked on a land reclamation project in the late 1990’s. Mahé, the largest island and home to the majority of people and commercial activity has only a narrow strip of flat land running adjacent to the beaches and a small area of flat land to the south east of the island. The heavily forested, mountainous interior is an area of great natural beauty and unspoiled rain forest, and an area the Seychellois people wish to preserve.
This shot was taken from a high vantage point on Mahé. From the bottom of the shot progressing to the top you can see original land which quickly rises to the mountains (where I am standing), then comes the old shore line which now looks like a small creek. Next you can see a tract of reclaimed land on which the government has built housing for the local population. The land with the orange roofed buildings is the prestigious Eden Island and marina; built on reclaimed land, this South African developed complex houses luxury apartments and villas and berths for luxury sailing vessels.
In the distance one can see Ile de Cerf and the Sainte Anne Marine National Park.

a glimpse of paradise this. Looks idyllic and full of such vibrant colours. Amazing what can be achieved if a set of luxury apartments are in the mix. Sorry being cynical, must be the 30c heat here in England today, summer has arrived with a vengeance and will be gone in the blink of an eye I expect. I does look beautiful and captured superbly.

This is not just a splendid panorama with superb colours, it's also a very interesting and informative picture (along with the note) which fits the TE motto of teaching about the world perfectly. It's very interesting to watch the reclaimed land and the way it has been used. I can't say that I feel an urge to spend a vacation in the Eden Island tourist ghetto, but I am sure it's a comfortable place. The combination of green, white, red and blue is anyway stunning.

Ciao e buona serata

The cluster of red roof gives an interesting effect against the very blue water. This looks indeed like a very attractive place, like a paradise.

A very attractive composition in horizontal layers with different contrasting colours.
You found a wonderful viewpoint and this is surely a panorama that one can admire for a long time.
The picture is well detailed. On closer inspection, we discover lots of interesting things.
Best regards, Paul

Well now, this offers up a different perspective of the islands...and a great one at that! My initial thought was that this was perhaps the Caribbean, so it's nice to see yet another side of this locale. The colors here are stunning, so deep and rich I just want to throw myself into the mix. :) This wide open view really takes on a life of its own and shows up a nice layout of the region, as it then leads us out to sea. Beautiful, bright, and tantalizing to the senses. Thanks for the view.
All the best,

Hello Rosemary. So now you were on the Sychellen. The view from the top of the countryside and the sea is just fantastic. Unfortunately, this area of the world is still a white spot on my map.

This is a superb panorama with an interestting note. The vantage point as allowed to really show what the note describes. The colors are well saturated and the image is of hight quality.

This is a beautiful scene, and slightly surreal with its array of deep rich colors like this. I'm grateful for your note to understand how the layer effect of the land is achieved here. Those homes with the red roofs look like a particularly fine place to live.
abmdsudi (50430) 2013-07-11 9:54
The high viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the stunning blue ocean views from this famous resort island with the stretching red roofs across the mid frame are indeed so eye-catching full of pretty corners, rich in colors and cosily sandwitched by pretty lush green. Superb exposure in brilliant lighting and so much more to view in this delightful shot. Congrats, TFS

I saw this on FB and couldn't take my eyes off it. The colours and textures just jumpout of the monitor at the viewer. What an impressive POV and a stunning depth of field you've achieved. You really have demonstrated not just what a great photographer you are, but also how very beautiful this magical place is.
Thanks for sharing, enjoy your Friday

gorgeous view you present us here with some spectacular colors. The bight red roofs against the deep azure of the sea are amazing. Love the scenery.
Thanks and have a great weekend

you have chosen a very well working POV!
Your photo gives us information about the surface of a landscape we otherwise won’t get. This very fascinating mix of islands, woods, houses and the sea is beautiful. The colors make the image very attractive. My compliments also for the note!

A couple of things really stand out for me here...first of all, the great range of color between the greenish river in the lower fg compared to the aqua blues in the middle portion.
and secondly, those middle red-roofed homes must cost a FORTUNE! Which is kind of evidenced by the large white yachts!
a fine layered shot, lots of color to dazzle the eyes.
love seeing these hidden gems of Africa
