This is the Island of Mahe in the Seychelles.
I took this photo from a Microlight while on holiday in Beau Vallon - after spending the summer doing marine conservation work on the Island of Mahe.
At the very end of my stay - I got to go for a flight in the Microlight! The Microlight I went on looks like a hang glider with 2 seats, an engine & a propeller - so, you are out in the open air. This Microlight is owned by the Marine Conservation Society of the Seychelles. They use it for Whale Shark spotting. It was really thrilling.... very "surreal" as Yohan (the pilot) puts it, and I agree.
This truly was a really special way to end my trip!
The Seychelles is a small island nation located in the Indian Ocean northeast of Madagascar and about 1,600 km (1,000 miles) east of Kenya. The number of islands in the archipelago is often given as 115 but the Constitution of the Republic of Seychelles lists 155.
I stayed on the island of Mahé for most of the summer of 2006, doing marine conservation work. But also stayed on Curieuse for a week & visited Praslin. The scenery was beautiful & the scuba diving was incredible everywhere I went! |
