I took this underwater photo while on holiday in Beau Vallon - after spending the summer volunteering - doing marine conservation work in the Seychelles. After my work was done, I took 10 days for purely recreational diving. I found this Cuttlefish during a night dive.
Cuttlefish are marine animals of the order Sepiida belonging to the Cephalopoda class (which also includes squid, octopuses, and nautiluses). Despite their common name, cuttlefish are not fish but molluscs. Recent studies indicate that cuttlefish may be the most intelligent invertebrate species.
The Seychelles is a small island nation located in the Indian Ocean northeast of Madagascar and about 1,600 km (1,000 miles) east of Kenya. The number of islands in the archipelago is often given as 115 but the Constitution of the Republic of Seychelles lists 155.
I stayed on the island of Mahé for most of the summer of 2006, doing marine conservation work. But also stayed on Curieuse for a week & visited Praslin The scenery was beautiful & the diving was incredible everywhere I went! |

Magnificent colours captured here Margo. Well done with this shot as you probably used a flash to get some light on this guy it really accentuates the irridescence.
