[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this underwater photo while on holiday in Beau Vallon - after spending the summer volunteering - doing marine conservation work in the Seychelles. After my work was done, I took 10 days for purely recreational diving. I had found this turtle before the rest of the dive group & took a few photos of it - then waited for the others to see - since I had been looking for an opportunity to photograph other underwater photographers.

There are many Hawksbill turtles in the Seychelles - most of the ones I saw were juveniles - about this size. I'm not sure what the red & pink stuff is that seems to be growing on his shell. Looks like he got into the kid's finger paint.

The Seychelles is a small island nation located in the Indian Ocean northeast of Madagascar and about 1,600 km (1,000 miles) east of Kenya. The number of islands in the archipelago is often given as 115 but the Constitution of the Republic of Seychelles lists 155.

I stayed on the island of Mahé for most of the summer of 2006, doing marine conservation work. But also stayed on Curieuse for a week & visited Praslin The scenery was beautiful & the diving was incredible everywhere I went!

Fabulous shot, and I liked the idea of underwater videography, but I'm against the idea of walking into the natural habitat and scaring the animals, you could have done this capture from a distance too, poor thing must have been scared with two humans so close to it and surrounding it.

Hi Margo,
wonderful underwater picture with this gorgeous turtle, nice framing and beautiful colours. Congratulations.

Costantino

Hi Margo. My wife and I recently spent our honeymoon in the Maldives and just qualified as open-water divers. Your shot is truly excellent and reminds us of our first encounters with these amazing creatures. Wonderful photo. Regards, Paul.
