I took this photo while volunteering in the Seychelles. This was part of a very picturesque beach we found on the island of Curieuse. I stayed on this island for a week to help out the rangers. The rangers & their cook "Momma" are the only people who live on this island. The island is off the north coast of Praslin. It is notable for being one of only two islands native to the coco de mer.
In 1833 Curieuse became a leper colony that didn't cease operations until 1965. Today ruins of the leprosarium remain as well as the former physician's residence at Anse St. Joseph which is now an educational center and museum. One of the leper houses has been renovated & that is where me & 5 other volunteers lived.
In 1979 Curieuse and surrounding waters were declared the Curieuse Marine National Park in order to protect the native wildlife. Today it is the home of roughly 300 Aldabra Giant Tortoise. The island is also a protected sea turtle nesting ground.
