This is from the city of Ziguinchor in southern Senegal and I'm about to leave for Guinea-Bissau. I have been offered a seat at the front with the driver. It means I will have to pay a bit more, but after all – I'm white so I'm supposed to be rich. (Which of course I am, comparatively).
The two children probably just happened to be here and wanted to be in the picture. The man I believe was a fellow passenger from Sierra Leone, who turned out to be very nice and helpful and assisted me a lot during the long and complicated journey to Bissau, which involved several changes of vehicle, including an open truck, a small motor boat and a truck converted into some kind of bus.
This picture from 1990 was scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

interesting group portrait and interesting informative note! I like the way you portray the world and people of the world!
Good composition with a very tight crop; everything and everyone is within the frame :) Very good scan!
and warm regards,

Interesting story about travels in Africa. I also like travelling with locals, even if it is not so comfortable like with an organized group, in air conditioned bus. But then you see real life. So I suppose you had great time. Nice portrait of these girls. Warm regards

Hej Gert ,
Daily life.. how different things can be... I like the way they decorated the car with colours and flowers. I suppose the net on the roof also is having an important role.
So how many travellers where you all together?

Interesting composition with this vertical format and all those standing persons and even more; the ladder leading up to one of them standing on the roof. Nice to see a new country for a change. Do you have more left?

Voilà une image qui me rappelle quelques souvenirs de voyage. Jolie scène de vie quotidienne !

A random photo I have not viewed before. Well balanced composition showing an idea of daily life in this less photographed destination. I like the mult-coloured signage - someone's pride and joy! I can recall paying more to sit in the front - we certainly are comparatively rich (in monetary terms)! Tfs, Marlene
