Bird Sanctuary

| The city of Saint-Louis consists of parts of mainland Senegal, and a strip of island going along the length (north to south). In between the mainland and the island is a large river of brackish water (a mix between salt and fresh water). In this river is a floating island that is a natural bird sanctuary. It was wonderful going on a boat down this river and right up next to the birds to take pictures, breathe in the fresh air, and hear all the different kinds of birds sqwaking and chirping. I had to put Autocontrast with photoshop. |

Now this is something you (I) don't see everyday! It is interesting how the different groups of birds are facing the same direction. I can only guess what this group sounded like... Thanks for sharing!
This is a truly astonishing view of an immense population of pelicans. To me these gangly birds have evoked images of the prehistoric pterodactyl. It must be an unforgetable experience to have heard and seen these creatures in the wild, and kind of you to share them with other TE-subscribers. Technically speaking I might have cropped the lower part of the photo, aiming toward the proportions of the golden rectangle — length-to-width ratio of 1.618 (or 800x495 pixels) to give the picture more of a visual impact. But excellent photo anyway. Bulent

Hi Lara,
This is a great photo. I like your POV and also the composition (with a lot of water in foreground and a bit of a diagonal formed by the flying seagulls. Also good colors and sharpness. I am jealous -- I have tried for a year to get a good shot of the pelicans around our neighborhood but they are always too far away! Well done!!
