Thirsty rhino, a photo from Kaolack, West

Photographer's Note

I could not resist to visit Fathala wildlife reserve, especially when i heard they have two Rhinos in the park and it is only a few hours away from Gambia were i spent my holiday. I was very lucky to see one of the rhinos when he was at this waterhole but i had no luck with our jeep. The fuelpump to the engine broke so we had to walk by foot for half an hour before the park staff picked us up. It was a little bit exciting, I mean you never know what kind of animals who can show up when you don`t have protection in a car..

Hello Boa,
Walking by foot for half an hour with a rhinoceros around? Wow, you like to live dangerously :)
This is certainly a unique picture. Not that many visitors of a reserve do encounter a rhino.
Despite his reputation for being dangerous, this scene looks very peaceful.
Did you realize the second one could be behind you? :)

En mycket vacker naturbild men fina färger. Man får bara hoppas att denna noshörning går säker för alla tjuvskyttar. Det förefaller ha varit en spännande promenad genom vildmarken, inga andra vilda djur att fotografera?

Hello Boa,

That was more than thrilling! To watch a rhino on a film is interesting; to watch a rhino from a jeep is exciting; to walk in an area where a rhino is feeding is extremely scary!
You have captured an amazing shot of this drinking rhino. It will be something you will remember for ever!
Despite the excitement, there is no camera shake, your shot is nicely composed and the details very accessible.

Hej Boa,
Trevligt att få en så här bra bild på så nära håll av en noshörning. Särskilt som det inte finns så många kvar. Spännande berättelse också om resan dit, och inte minst om båtresan du beskrev för Gunnar. I Indien råkade jag en gång gå med min resväska rakt in i ett noshörnings- och tigerreservat när jag tog miste på vägen till hotellet. Jag hann väl någon kilometer innan jag insåg misstaget.

I've these picture almost missed, what a lovely nature picture with these Rhinos as subject.
A pity that poachers these nice animals make dead, why!
