A simple daily scene in the colourful Island of Gorée. Situated near Dakar, this small Island with no cars is today a World Heritage and a symbol of the slave trade. First ruled by the Portuguese and then by the Dutch, English and French, this was a point of departure for many African slaves from 15th to 19th centuries. The House of Slaves with its Door of No Return is one of the most important attractions in the Island. There, we can still see the places where slaves were kept and the door they passed to reach the ship and start the long voyage to never return again (for this reason the door was called Door of No Return).
In spite of its sad history, Gorée is a very beautiful Island with colourful houses, like this one we see here. Besides the impressive places where slaves were kept, we can also see many nice houses built for the slave traders, churches...

The red wall provides a perfect background for this simple but very nice photo. The newspaper, the transistor radio, the cardboard box and the blue window are very fine details that complement the view of the man on the bench.

well spotted scene not only for interesting content but also for picturesque coloring. The dark red wall provides excellent background for the reader and blue window in the corner draws an attention too. Eye pleasing composition, colors and light.
Thanks for sharing

Hello Ana - A sight I see often in Namibia, especially in the rural areas - newspapers and radios are hugely important forms of communication. An excellent shot, beautifully captured with a lovely balance of colour and DL detail. Warm regards Rosemary

Une scène de la vie de tous les jours bien mise en image avec une bonne composition exploitant les couleurs vives de l'endroit.

Excellent detail photo with very nice colors, perfect light, very good clarity. The well-chosen tight crop eliminates all unwanted distractions. Well done.
I'm surprised you have not been in Kerala. Fort Cochin is full of Portugese architecture including many old churches.

I think everybody wishes the guy to be placed as far left of frame as possible to have a better balance, but situation may not work the way we wish to at times since we can't control them and instead let him play out on his own merits and letting him act as himself while vividly capturing the in-depth view.
This is a kind quick grab candid street I always love & enjoy to do myself as this provides a real world, spur-of-the-moment liveliness capturing him off guard and different real life full of character. The concentration on the textures, decay of the physical environment, that wonderful slice of life which is what interested me here. Clarity is great where the delicious intensity of colors have boosted the visual fanfare really well. Indeed a high quality shot, a picture telling story!! My congrats.
Your notes also remind me of the movie 'Kunta Kinte' decades ago and how nicely you relate this.

You're capturing well this scene by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's impressive to see daily life the beautiful situation and tasteful colors. It's so effective for the boy sitting on the bench and reading the newspaper as well as the primary color of the wall and window in behind. You're representing this scene by outstanding image quality of psychology an color, although here had a sad story in past.

The notes that go along with this image certainly put it in a new light after seeing it beforehand. A wonderful daily life scene with added impact from the islands history. These kinds of spontaneous moments make for some of the best and most revealing aspects about a city and its inhabitants, and you've captured a simple and pleasing one here. The colors are superb, and the textures amazing. A keen observation and quick thinking to collect this scene. Very well done...reading the paper and listening to the radio...seems easy enough, yeah? :) Have a great day ahead.

Beautiful shot with some nice details speaking of the daily life over there. The opposition of the blue window and the red wall is primordial to the success of the photo. An interesting thing for me is that I would have likely not composed it the way you did, but it works very well your way.

an absolutely quiet and attractive daily life scene, the colours and textures have a marvellous density and along with a few details provide a great context for the human interest to stand out. I love the sense of intimacy created by the candidness of the capture, by the soft lighting and warm colours. The scene is meaningful and, in spite of its stillness, it gets captivating. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend,
