Here is another shot from the women's weaving part in the northern Rwandan city of Ruhengeri.
What is fun to see in this cooperative work environment is not only how quickly and efficiently the women work, but how well they get along with one and other. It is not just a business, rather it is a social gathering with business on the side.
Another interesting point is how people recall the genocide and explain it to westerners. Many would use their workplace or neighbourhood to illustrate how close of a community they were, until all of a sudden their best friends, child's babysitters, teachers, childhood friends and co-workers all of a sudden turned and became their killers. Now after the war, many families (if they survived) returned home, right next door to the family who would not hide them, the family who turned them in, the man who hunted for them day after day saying "where are you -insert name- i know you are in here and i want you, you are going to be my 25th cockroach and i am saving it for you".
Needless to say, they smile, laugh and joke like the rest of us, but one cannot help wonder what is going on behind that beautiful smile. Is it pain? Is it true genuine happiness? Or is it the want or revenge? |

Hello Adam. A small screen window with a large effect. Only the really important is to be seen, this expressionful and merry face. Perfectly. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hi Adam,
I like that you have only chosen to show a part of the face and hand, yet it is a very expressive image, and does not need more. Works well in black and white too.
Regards
Wanda

Hello ,
I am really touched by this subtle framing as well as by the note. I am currenlty reading a book, that is called in french " La strategie des antilopes" from Hatzfeld and basicaaly, it is focused on how Hutus and Tutsies are new neighbooring as befor, some of them willling to forgive, some others willing to forget... many things are hidden ... Veruy nice pict. Geraldine
Hello Adam,
