[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was taken on an island off the coast of Lagos, Christmas Day 2004, on a tiny island lined with the beach huts of the rich. This little boy's family would help out the holidayers, carrying loads on the their heads from the boats to the beach huts and back. No wonder he has that sceptical look in his eyes.......

I find the cracked and worn plaster of the background interesting and perfectly apropriate to help express the dilapidation and poverty of the childs existence. And his toy is nothing more than a piece of string. A moving photograph.

I like the look on the boy's face. His large eyes are very expressive. The backstory adds a lot to understanding the moment.

The expression says so much. I also like how sad the "plain" background seems.
