Deep impact, tense portrait, made more interesting with a relaxed second girl in the background who's a real contrast the right through-your-brain look of the foreground girl.

Perhaps slightly burnt on her nose... apart from that she IS impressive.

Well done, Karolien. This is a compelling shot, and really draws me into it. Great composition, focus, and lighting -- it's all very dramatic. Personally I would be tempted to rotate it just a bit (about a degree CCW) so the face is vertical, but that's just a personal nit. Congrats!

Hi Karolien
What an excellent shot. It's all here. The exposure, nice balance of colours, good sharpness and nice depth of field. I also like the little faint shadows on the faces. Nice sharp eye contact and good framing. I'm not so sure whether it was necessary to include the face behind, as this unbalances the portrait a little; but the shot is excellent nevertheless. Great work.

Hi Karolien, it's a wonderfull pic, the portrait is so successfull ! Everything is well captured, light, colors, contrast, sharpness, the difference between textures... The way you framed the picture points out the face of the woman. The second face bring a lot of originality in the composition and reinforces the impressions giving by the first one. Quite surprisingly, what makes this face so special is, to me, the one half-showing on the background, as if she was 'pushing in' the foreground girl right into your lens. Hence making a very interesting compo. Superb capture of the eyes' expression. Fantastic 'piqué', so sharp, of the cotton black fabric shadowing her face. Great image indeed. Cheers, --amz

Sometimes the beauty of the subject can lead to like a lot even an ordinary picture. This is not the case. Not only the subject is incredibly beautiful and interesting, but the shot is perfetc. beautifully composed, with the turban framing the upper part of the picture and, most important, the second woman in the background. impressive.

An incredible one! There is so much strange atmoshere on that. To tell the truth I don't know if it is menacing or cheerful. Anyway the girl look like from outer space.

You took it static with no sings of move and that was right decision. Sharpness of the shapes is an absolute killer. Congratulation - Marcin.

Karolien,

I must say that this is, in my opinion, the best photo I have seen on this sight. Perfect composition with the second face in the background really providing more interest to and adding to the main subject - it really compliments the main "face". Great color and perfect DOF. The focus is right on the eyes and the photo is sharp. Nothing to take away from the main subject - no sky, environment, or anything else to take away from the face of the woman.

U know sth Karolien!
I thnik I can see U in the shining glow of her EYE, standing in front of her trying to capture this fragile second.
Every one has praised light, frame, composition, etc so I have to add other things I think ;)
I like the way all these blach elements (scarf,woven hair, blurred behind face) "frame" her face, & her BLACK LOOKS.The hanging hair draw the eye from her eyes to down, her lips, & then the girl behind, this way the eye chases all over the shot.
Also u know what I like most abt this girl?
The originality of her "make up": 3 spots on her right chick & 4 on her left, the fact that she hasn't tried to make'em SYMMETRICAL !!

What a beautiful portrait of a beautiful girl. Colour and image is clear and sharp. Her skin tone seems a bit yellow/gold, maybe she wore some sort of traditional make-up just for the day? I also love your composition, capturing her face with a very faint smile as if she is saying, "I know why you're taking my photo."
