About 250 wild horses roam in an area of approximately 40,000 ha in the vicinity of Garub, some 30 km west of Auas. A single waterhole has been provided which the horses visit every two to three days.
The origin of the wild horses of the Namib Desert is unknown. Various theories exsist and genetic tests undertaken have to date not revealed the origin of the desert horse.
At the time of my visit we counted 138 horses during a 4 hour period at the waterhole. Observing the horses on the wide open plains of the Namib Desert is a special experience. |

Hi Max
Welcome to TE. Great shot of these magnificent animals. It's nice to see them roam free. TFS.
