This photograph was taken from the base of the pillars. This mass of perpendicular dolerite pillars are located in the Twyfelfontein area of Namibia and were formed by the intrusion of volcanic rock dolerite about 120 million years ago.

Hello Frank,
A hearty welcome on TE. Thanks for this first post illustrating a very impressive geological phenomenon. I have rarely seen such clear edges on basaltic organs.

I love the detail in this photo and also the lack of scale making everything seem huge. We also have volcanic pillars near us, but only small.
