Photographer's Note

To me, this is a special shot. It may not be a startling landscape to many of you but here in Namibia any sight of a river in flow is something to marvel at. The only perennial rivers here are the ones that form borders with our northern and southern neighbours. The huge land mass that makes up the country is dry and rivers flow only in very good rainy seasons and then for a few short hours.
This shot was taken on a return trip from the Caprivi Strip near the little town of Divundu, some 200 kilometres east of Rundu. Here the Okavango River breaks through a 4 metre high quartzite reef in its riverbed, which stretches over more than a kilometre in width and produces a set of rapids.
