Another shot from the archives and one in which I hope I have managed to convey something of the special feeling of watching wildlife in the early mornings in Etosha. One can drive through the park in the middle of the day and see game but nothing can beat an early departure from your camp. The camp gates open around sunrise and if you are willing to miss breakfast (we take a flask of coffee and some nibbles) an early start means you can watch the animals in the early morning light and cool of the day when they are most active. The zebra here were travelling to and from a waterhole. All we needed to do was park up, drink our coffee and enjoy the show.
I recommend you view this on the beta version of TE where you can see a larger version and the detail far better. http://beta.trekearth.com/gallery/photo1427974.htm
I do wish the usual TE would allow the larger uploads to be displayed

I can just imagine how you felt sharing this early morning view of nature. There is an amazing sense of peace!
I would love to experience this, myself.
You have a fine, intimate shot, here, which is very well composed and with lovely warmth in the grasses. Personally, I would brighten it just a little. If you pop it in PS and auto smart fix it, it just lifts the patterns on the zebra without significantly altering anything else.
Thanks for sharing this,

must be completely different feeling to enjoy nature in its natural environment, than in ZOO.
Lovely shot with unique, kind of calm atmosphere(even if we see so many zebras in the shot).Maybe the feeling is enhanced by so delightful, warm light you were able to bring out here so nicely.

I like very much the feeling of peace and tranquillity here, where nature reigns supreme. Beautiful capture with superb soft light and colours. Excellent sharpness.

very nice and romantic the sunset colours as falling in the Etosha nationalpark and especially on this herd of zebras.I like the beautiful scenery, the great atmosphere as created from the passing by day.

J'ose à peine imaginer la sensation particulière que tu as ressenti ors de cette rencontre mémorable avec un troupeau de zèbres. Dommage que la lumière n'ait pas participé aux réjouissances.

Hello Rosemary, with the zebras contentedly grazing and the remains of the pink morning light in the sky this has such a lovely serene look about it.
The sunlit grasses in the FG give the shot an extra dimension I think.
Kind regards Les.

Excellent photo of one of Africa's most photogenic inhabitants in their natural surroundings and they never fail to delight. Wonderful to see them wild, I always think if you have not seen them for yourself you could hardly believe they are for real with those stripes even in this back-lighting shot indeed a real treat to see. I too love your accompanying narrative always informative and fascinating at the same time. The subject and the composition are very compatible, sweet light and wonderful rich warm tones, and the large view puts it into a class of its own of an appealing subject matter. Wonderful camera work, Tfs

Il est bien dommage que l'on ne puisse pas voir la version plus grande sur le nouveau TE, la différence est impressionnante et permet de profiter pleinement de cette photo. Très belle rencontre!

I wasn't aware of the new TE Beta, looks amazing, so thank you for the hint.
Ah, how I miss the early morning light of the african Savannah with the wide open skys and the golden light. You really remind me that we have to plan a Safari holiday once again shortly. Gorgeous light, colors and sky and of course the tranquil scenery with the grazing Zebras, so beautiful.
have a great day

Lovely wildlife capture. What I like the most is the weird string sunlight that creates this golden scene. Well taken.

I really like this photo not only because of the wonderful early morning feeling it conveys, but also because it is very representative of the difficulties often encountered when photographing wildlife. Animals are often in backlighting. I believe the reason is that they are well aware of the possible dangers and that they would rather see you in direct lighting than the other way round. You often also see them from behind as they are prepared to quickly run away if something that appears dangerous is approaching. Having said that still think it is a really great photo in particular the large version that gives a sense of what you saw in real life. TFS and have a nice evening!
