[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In the Namib desert, if you follow the Tsauchab River toward the sea, you'll never reach it. You'll fall about 55 kilometers short, that is, unless you consider the sandy sea surrounding you sufficient. The river terminates in an expansive salt pan, Sossusvlei, which is circled by some of the tallest sand dunes in the world--reaching up to 300m. In the photo, the scale nearly depicts orders of magnitude, with the calcined trees several times taller than the tourists, and the dunes several times taller than the trees. The temperature this day was comfortable in the early morning, but may very well have reached 40 degrees by mid-day.

Hi Christian, the inclusion of the people in this shot of yours was a very good idea. It provides real depth of scale. The composition is very well done with the vast foreground leading up to the even larger dunes.

Thanks, John

One word...WOW.
I've never heard of anything quite like this before, let alone seen it. Thanks. Your note is fabulous and the image is very thought provoking.
Thanks for braving the heat to capture it.
Stunning,
KellEy

This is amazing - thank you for your description. The photograph and the scale of things is surreal... If you have more photos from these series, please post them as well, I'd love to see that!

Thanks,

Regards,

Boris

Great photograph! I get the feeling that this shot seems to serve as an allegory for human insignificance as compared to the power of nature's forces. Great eye.

Too bad about the vignetting in the corners, but this shot is a winner nonetheless!

Hello Christian,

Impressive shot with nice colours.
TFS.

Bonjour Christian,
La compo est impressionante puisque au départ au croit voir des brindilles alors que ce sont des arbres ! Ensuite, on pourrait croire que les dunes sont deux jambes de femme...
Extra !
Amicalement,
Seb

Hi Christian.

Today I am going to say something not usual in a critique: Christian, if you weren't Christian this photo would have much more critiques.
Only seven critiques?
TE is crazy?

This is really great.
Impressive place and a very good capture.

Regards.

Hello Christian,
This is a great pic.
Starting looking at the bottom of it: the people between the dead trees and then going up to the big dunes. It makes us feel very tiny.
Nice soft colours !
Paul
