Photographer’s Note

Sossusvlei Dune 45 – the number means, that the dune is situated after 45 km of distance from the park entrance gate on the left hand side of the recently tarred road. This dune is not!! the only one which is allowed to climb on by the public. The photo gives a good idea of the height of Sossusvlei-dunes, that tower up to 350m. Dune 45 measures approximately 150 m only.

Incredible light. It seems to me there is no haze at all. I suppose that no-haze thing is what let you obtain such extraodinary color tones in the background.
Excellent composition also.
By the way, I hope your car was the one parked under the shade of the tree, not the one in the sun ;-)

Hello Hans,

Nice picture, especially because of the car and the road giving the scale, but also because of the background dunes whom the summit is just visible.
For your comments, the Dune 45 is not the only one you can climb, pretty all the others are accessible, but for sure it is one of the most climbed due to its beautiful shape.
Thanks for your photo: its centring is very efficient.

Hans, thanks for sharing the interesting photo. So... dunes here are not pale yellow (like In Egypt) but acutually acid-orange and acid-yellow. Now I understand why Dutch named a river nearby as 'Oranje'
