My last upload was a picture taken in a little visited area in the far north-east of Namibia; this one is much more familiar, further south and in the middle of the Namib Desert – Sossusvlei. Two such contrasting climate zones and the accompanying scenery make Namibia a unique country for visitors. The travelling distances are vast and towns few and far between but the scenery is diverse and spectacular.
In this shot water from the ephemeral, Tsauchab River has gathered in the clay pan, Sossusvlei. Its pathway to the sea now cut off by the tallest dunes in the world.

This could be the Simpson Desert in outback Queensland Australia after a rare rainstorm. Good sharpness and nice warm cold color contrasts between the blue sky, water and red sand dune in the bg. The splashes of green at right add a lot to the shot. Tfs!

The landscape is beautiful, with many colors and a contrast between the water in the foreground and the big red dune in the background.

This is a breathtaking landscape: the colors are intense and well balanced, the branches in the foreground add a tremendous depth to the overall scene, and everything is sharp and well in focus.
Thanks for sharing!

Encore une magnifique photo de ce paysage namibien dominé par cette dune aux couleurs incroyables et avec la présence, presque insolite ici, de cette étendue d'eau.

You are fortunate to live in an area with such fascinating landscapes. I like the composition and even more especially the play of light across the foreground shrub and the background hills. Superb saturated colours and clarity beyond reproach.

Ciao e buona giornata

Your photograph is about as different as it is possible to get, from my photograph, with the exception that they both have water in the f/g.
The colours of the dunes is quite exceptional and I love how the light and shadows reveal their ridges and undulations. You have obviously timed your shot well, so that the light is at its best.
The partially submerged shrub makes a fine f/g attraction, strongly positioned, as it is.
My warm regards,
Well done for spotting the lady and her small child in my photograph. I had not connected the two!!

a stunning scenic view with such gorgeous colours and light. It looks like a place to sit and contemplate life in, the distant sand dune looks amazing. Executed perfectly and an idyllic presentation.
Regards - Brian.

In my impression water is so precious in Africa. Here, the river runs by sand dunes. It's true that the scenery is spectacular.

Simple and attractive composition. Nature has artistic looks everywhere and in every time. Well taken scene.

Hi dear Rosemary
Beautiful strong colours and marvellously details textures and lines. I love the little ripples on the water, the texture of the dead tree and of course the far off sand dunes. A superbly composed and immaculate photo, beautifully conceived and realised.
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day

A spectacular landscape! A very interesting contrast between the very dry, desert-like hills and the lake. The green trees emphasize this contrast. Very fine colours!

Rosemary, it must get boring seeing these beautiful colors every day. You've done a great job capturing them. The bush in front gives some needed perspective, without which it would be pretty difficult to tell how big the mountain in back is. Lovely browns and greens.
ACL1978 (7511) 2013-05-03 16:41
Your shots from this spot are always so wonderfully realized, Rosemary - the color is just incredible, with the bursts of green contrasting perfectly with the bright orange sand and the pastel blue sky. Thanks!
CLODO (35370) 2013-05-04 2:11
Nice to see water in a desert! It should not last long. I like the curves of the orange dune at the back, contrasting well the the green leaves of the trees and bushes.
Have a nice week end

Un paysage d'une grande beauté ou le contraste et la lumière joue un rôle important, très bon POV et présentation
PaulVDV (31217) 2013-05-04 14:34
A very well balanced picture with splendid colours. Beautiful contrast between the wetland on the foreground (even though this is seasonal) and the desert view on the background.
Best regards, Paul

I shall never tire of looking at your pictures of the rich red sand dunes and landscapes of Namibia and this is yet another inspiring photograph.
The oblique light on the dunes "sculpts" them perfectly with areas of strong light and strong shade. Your composition in this one is superb, the straggly bush coming out of the water adding a wonderful foreground feature and all the other elements in the picture pleasingly placed.
Fabulous rich colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness. A fascinating note to boot.

Strong title, is to get a word in edgewise.
The layers in the picture creates a nice
depth and the branches on the forground
emphasize extra the depth. Light management
is also excellent.
P.s. thanks for your congratulation.
bayno (18344) 2013-05-12 3:42
Even here the contrast is very strong Rosemary, a place so desert and the presence of water that will surely be valuable for animals in the area and also a great place to photograph, very beautiful light, excellent depth and color rendering and a author framing...
Angshu (56760) 2013-05-14 3:09
A simple yet effective title to this picture.
We see one of the famous tall Namibian orange dunes in the BG & the desertic soil starting right from the river bank. The dead tree with its branches spread in the water creates a strong focal point & pivots the shot well.
I would have struggled to compose in such a lovely place & here you have achieved a wonderful result!
mkamionka (39545) 2013-05-15 7:57
beautiful landscape. There is a nice contrast here of the dry sand dunes and the water in the foreground.
Great composition with the bush in the foreground left. Fantastic extraordinary colors of nature with orange brown green and blue.
