Today I’m back to a genre I feel more comfortable with – landscapes, or more simply; things that do not move! This was a serendipitous few minutes; the clouds were scudding across the sky casting superb areas of light and shade over the dunes.

The lights and shades on the sand suns were magical!
brianmcc (5536) 2012-08-23 7:44
it is the beautifully saturated colours and the strong lines that immediately catch the eye. i love the areas of colour and shade on the hills, while the green, white and blue all combine to create this impressive picture.
siolaw (37568) 2012-08-23 7:45
The fresh green grass contrasts well with the arid dunes and surroundings. Nice soft clouds in the sky making those shades on the sand...
Guenther (10893) 2012-08-23 7:49
the play of light and shadow on the smooth dunes is magic, I like also the soft colours... a very appealing image!

Good evening Rosemary, my today's neighbour on TE posting.
I learent a new serendipitous word in English, thanks for that.
What a moment collected, the red tone on the hills is stunning, and in fine contrast to the green valley in front.
Beautiful and no less impressive.

A genre that you excel at so I am always happy to see more landscapes from you. The light areas amongst the shadows seem to glow. The sand dunes adopt such beautiful flowing shapes - as if an artistic had painted them. Another gem.
Kind Regards, Ann

A lovely shot... great areas of light an shade with the lovely contrasting colours of the dunes and the green land in the foreground.
More in keeping with an English landscape than a Namibian one in some ways!
Cricri (86347) 2012-08-23 12:38

Jolie composition.
CLODO (24716) 2012-08-24 0:17
Splendid effect of the shades of the clouds on the orange hills giving the sense of space, vastness. I would have cropped the bottom of the picture area without grass and also a portion of the sky to get more colors.
sevy (13269) 2012-08-24 2:35
Nice place, very different with the green grass spots that what I could see some years ago. I like a lot the colors contrast between green, orange and blue. Moreover, the light, filtered through clouds is giving a good rendering on the big dunes.
Royaldevon (17787) 2012-08-24 2:45
Oh, wow, Rosemary, this looks as if it has come straight from a Disney movie! I love to see the effects of light and shadow in a photograph and this is text book stuff! Is it possible to ski dunes? It looks so inviting!
You have a fine composition; thirds are green, orange and blue, each with its own distinct texture. There is such a natural movement elicited from f/g to b/g.
Have a lovely day,
JFS (32077) 2012-08-24 2:52
Delighful shot, perfectly observed. Magical sense...the shadows play is amazing. another great shot, thanks Rosemary!

this is one amazing image! Like what you've said, i really love the lighting in here especially the one in the middle that seems to glow amidst the darkness surounding. This is just superb rosemary! Can't say anything more. more than beautiful!
thanks for sharing this one!
regards from a very dry and hot italy...
williewhistler (7257) 2012-08-24 12:35
Hello Rosemary, the play between sunlight and shadow turns this into a gorgeous landscape, the colours of the dunes in the sun are just stunning and the pano format works very well.
Best regards Les.
marabu61 (3890) 2012-08-24 14:19
Don't put your light under the chair as we say in german. Means your photos of people and animals are equally good as your landscapes.
This one here is an other fine example of your extraordinary talent. Superb colors and beautiful light with a pleasing sky, this is very pleasing to look at.
Budapestman (82620) 2012-08-25 2:17
a beautiful landscape with very nice composition and fantastic lights, the atmosphere of the photo is romantic, great clouds and colours, Tfs! Have a nice weekend! Kellemes hétvégét kívánok!
dkmurphys (36737) 2012-08-25 4:45
Splendid shapes of the hills and charming soft shadows of the clouds. Well composed.
abmdsudi (26151) 2012-08-25 9:48
This is remarkable and rarely seen, splendid that you are at right spot at the right time registering the fantastic moments. The gaps within the moving clouds have projected the sunray with such awesome subtle shades and golden colors on the silky smooth dunes. The moving effect of the scudding clouds is so noticeable here and the two more layers of contrasting colors on the fg further extend the whole 'beauty' This is really marvelous, mouth watering capture!!
My compliments :)) TFS
westcoastgirl1 (660) 2012-08-25 9:53
Well clearly this is your genre. You have nailed every aspect and I wouldn't change a thing to this. I bow down to you!
kathryn_weir (1742) 2012-08-25 12:53
An accomplished shot with great depth and rich colour play. The shadow and light playing on the various surfaces or faces of the dunes are completely captivating. Thanks for sharing
mkamionka (24477) 2012-08-25 14:13
I know -it is such a huge difference to photograph landscapes and people. For me even the landscapes change too fast with the light suddenly changing -like in this photo the dunes seem to be a scene for a spectacle of the play of light with shadow. People are much more challenging to photograph. I get a lot of complains from my wife that I don't photograph our new baby daughter frequently enough -but it is so difficult! I like the green grassy foreground in the context of the sand dunes.
Beautiful place, great presentation,
delpeoples (44904) 2012-08-26 2:26
Hi dear Rosemary
Interesting word "scudding" and I think you break a record for using it, as I've never seen it in a photo title before :) Yes, I empathise with you, landscapes don't move, don't misbehave or abuse you. And of course being with nature is an instant de-stress (something I don't always get when I hang around people) :) Anyway, to your photo, the clouds certainly have played their role on the landscape which looks almost like a paint canvas. The rich colours are wonderful and the undulating hills make a stunning graphism. Lovely shot
baddori (18988) 2012-08-26 2:38
Almost imperceptible variations in different scenarios in their frequency.
An km., A cloud, a shadow and enchantment another microsystem, a "location" extraordinary.
Perhaps the myth of the "mirage" comes from losing the fixed points.
The temptation to be distracted from this nature is great.
Suppiluliuma (3841) 2012-08-27 1:15
A beautiful spectrum of colors and light/shades. The centre looks supernatural with its illuminated area bordered by dark shades. The light green grass is a testimony of the recent rains, I presume.
jemaflor (68837) 2012-08-27 4:48
Great dunes with an interesting light with shadows, I like the contrast between the abricot sand and the green grass in the fg, tfs.
bertolucci (13351) 2012-08-30 7:55
There's a very elegant and almost abstract feel to this mountainscape. The lineplay is lovely and so is the shadow play. It's a great and neat graphic packege with the placement of those two lone trees as the cherries on the cake.
Warm regards from Rotterdam,
emka (58078) 2012-08-30 23:49
Hi again, definitely it seems easier to make photos of something that doesn't move. But is it really? here also you have to choose the proper time. another amazing shot from Sossusvlei, with so much green. Gorgeous pictire.
corjan3 (1877) 2012-09-03 12:01
I do not think I can add to all the accolades above but I certainly do endorse them. What a wonderful image and, I am sure, such green grass in this environment is not an everyday occurrence. The colours and the effects of the sunlight on the landscape are just marvelous. Well done.
grigand (18583) 2012-09-03 12:45
A great view ! The compo a and saturated colors are wonderful, the light is very, very nice; congratulations.
Nard (6913) 2012-09-17 12:14
You're back with wonderful natural picture and I'm not able to choice. Here I like the simplicity and the magnificent game between light and colors on the dune. That looks very soft and the mixtt of green, orange and blue is a pleasure for my eyes.
Nicou (97583) 2012-09-18 7:20
fantastique iamge de cette dune quel effet de vagues et ces couleurs ave cle contraste du vert, une merveille fantastique vue et compo.
Bravo et amitié
bayno (16149) 2012-09-18 8:04
here is another surreal landscape that only Namibia can offer us, fabulous contrast between the colors, very nice framing and excellent quality...
my best regards,
leo61 (0) 2012-09-18 8:09
Looks a bit oversharpened on my screen ,but what a great landscapeshot!!!!
Perfect contrasting colors and nice light and shadows.
mirosu (5509) 2012-09-20 1:57
A very well composed image and great use of light and shadows to create a dramatic feel, with excellent descent color palette and depth. The play of light through the grass field and onto the sand hills, with the blue-white sky above it make this picture even more powerful, enhanced by the stark contrast of well lightened sand hills and the sky. Well done.
marcan44 (6223) 2012-09-21 13:28
composizione molto elegante.
Dolci linee delle dune, colori splendidi, colpi di luce ad effetto sul terreno, magnifico cielo!
Mi piace molto.
Have a nice night
clic (10987) 2012-09-23 7:25
Knowing you were to the point of taking that picture, the skies brought in soft light tones on sand dunes to compose an irresistible landscape set between green and blue!
mjdundee (4657) 2012-09-25 6:10
another dream like and very special view from Sossusvlei. The clouds did a nice job and prduced some fine lines of different shades on the dunes. Very well seen and done. TFS.
yquem46 (32229) 2012-09-25 6:16
Missed this one
Makes me nostalgic of Southern Africa, I'll have to plan something someday to Namibia, even if I was in the Caprivi strip for a couple of days
Beautiful and iconic scenery with a nice match of colors, sky, greenery and dunes
Bravo, best regards
josepmarin (55015) 2012-09-26 3:57
the light and the shades create a fantastic aesthetic game on the dunes, which you have caught skillfully by means of a good framing and a good technical execution. I like the beautiful natural colors and the strong chromatic contrast between them.
It is a splendid photo.
pierrefonds (48321) 2012-09-28 16:45
The distance between the field and the dunes is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the dunes. The good luminosity is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.
SWEETFREEDOM (18407) 2012-09-29 6:34
the game of lights and shadows is very nice. good colors and contrast.
Wahclellaspirit (3843) 2012-10-01 12:15
Wow! This is my type of landscape when I am out in the Fossil Beds here in Oregon.
You captured the light and placed the hills in a beautiful and perfect composition. The reds and greens are as they should be, complimenting one another. That lone lit tree on the right slope would make a composition in itself if you would have been able to walk nearer to the hills.
Bandit (2356) 2012-10-09 2:42
Your pictures are wonderful ! I like the shadows dancing on the mountains ! Well done !!
