Photographer's Note
Anyone who knows, or has visited, the Sossusvlei area realises that to see water in the clay pan is a rare sight indeed. We were very lucky to witness this as it occurs, perhaps, once in ten years. The Tsauchab river had flowed along the gravel corridor between the dunes and reached the Sossusvlei pan. Unable to flow any further due to the massive dunes, it will slowly evaporate.

Hello Rosemary,
i have indeed never even associated the namibian desert with water :-) A rare but beautiful sight, especially with the high dune in the back. TFS, best regards, F.

Note anticipates my thoughts.
The "clay pot", a large dune and an expanse of water
Impacting potential of red sand on the slope doce blue water and surrounded by green plants.
Excellent presentation "stage" that accuisce effect.

Hello Rosemary,
As usual, the colors of your picture are very nice, and the composition too. You were very lucky to have such conditions in this desert!

Hi Rosemary
Yes you got lucky to see water in this spot, but then you are lucky to live in such a breathtaking land like Namibia.
This is another superb picture from you. I just love your compositions and the way you use the light.

Hi Rosemary
the light in this shot is so beautiful in bringing out all the colours and detail. It seems to caress everything so lovingly. Superbly executed and a quite captivating presentation.
Have a great weekend - regards Brian.

Hello Rosemary,
I cannot help but notice the immense contrast between the photographs that you post of Namibia and those that you post of Scotland. Both contained water and hills but there the similarity ends.
You have used the swamped grasses well, for interest and as good leads. The water is such an amazing contrast to the aridity of the surrounding land. The only obvious greenery is in the trees.
You have a fine sense of depth, strong colours and fine clarity.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hello Rosemary,
the lovely low sun light helps to emphasise the shapes and texture of the dunes as well as lighting the branches of the submerged trees, lovely depth in a well thought out composition.
Best regards Les.

Hello Rosemary,
You have made very effective use of the overlapping peaks and valleys giving a great sense of depth. The rich orange sands are nicely contrasted against the blue sky and subdued water collection in the foreground. Nicely balanced composition including the spindly brush

Hi Again, Seeing the Sossusvlei area with water must be unique experience Living in Namibian you have much bigger chance to see it - first water and then some plants after it. Once in ten year - it is very rare! So i will for sure not see it. fantastic view of the dunes and some green bushes.
We will be in Swakopmund on 4th and 5th October, coming from Spitzkoppe.
have a nice Sunday

Hi Rosemary,
As you said that must be rare, and the first time for me to see a picture with water over there. I wonder if the landscape will change more green for a moment. Good sidelight, shadows add contrast nicely. Strong perspective, with many details from front to back.

Rosemary,
Call me a nagger but you MUST publish a book on that beautiful country. Technically your photo's are of the requisite standard and better and your prowess as a photographer is just fabulous. So why not? Yet another fantastic image and so unusual with the water in this arid area. What a pleasure to view. Best wishes.

PS: By the way, have you been to the Singing Hill just south of Messum Complex (northeast of Cape Cross)? I spent many nights under the stars there and it is a very special phenomenon.

Hi Rosemary
This is interesting nature shot of flooded pan, a wonderful tranquil image that has a good depth and excellent detail. It's a pleasing composition but your colour and the lovely background dune and greenery works realy well enhanced by the stunning vivid colours and textures. Splendid rare captures! Well done TFS.

Hi Rosemary,
I know this place just from photos but I can imagine how rare is this sight. Having some experience with Californian deserts I can only say that this place must be amazing few weeks or even days after that when some vegetation starts to explode. turning the place into a short term garden. I remember the more rain there was in the desert the more beautiful was the spring time with cacti blooming etc.
However it may be different over there as I see you are saiyng that it just evaporates without the trace.
Great view indeed, thanks for sharing,
M

Hello dear Rosemary
This photo is testament to the changeability and harshness of this landscape. Thye colours are beautiful, the sight of the water is something to rejoice in, but there is an underlying message behind the photo, that the land and its inhabitants are not always so lucky to see this kind of weather.
Thanks for sharing this perfectly executed and beautiful photo

Hello Rosemary,
You're capturing well this nature scene by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the water in clay, green plant and dune in behind. It's interesting to see flooded scene in dune for me. The whole is harmonized and balanced well by natural tone and some interesting elements.
Kind regards,
mikio
