The river oasis Tchauchab

Sossusvlei is a clay pan in the central Namib Desert, lying within the Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia. Fed by the Tsauchab River, it is known for the high, red sand dunes which surround it forming a major sand sea. Vegetation, such as the camelthorn tree, is watered by infrequent floods of the Tsauchab River, which slowly soak into the underlying clay.

wonderful idea to put the different colors together, nice the shapes in curve, the few trees and the beautiful light and sky, probably the lightest sand was the botton of a lake I guess..some day I want to visit this place

A great capture of this fascinating and largely inhospitable desert landscape. Interesting tonal contrasts on either side of the oasis and with the strip of blue sky above. Excellent sharpness.

This is really a stunning place . The differences of sand color is incredible , and the contrast with the perfect blue sky is gorgeous . I like a lot the little white bushes in the fore ground , too .

Hallo Achim. Eine Wüste mit sehr interessanten Farben. Im Uferbereich halten sich einige Bäume. Erst der Text bringt die wichtigen Hintergrundinformationen. Du hast das Typische der Landschaft sehr gut mit Deiner Kamera erfaßt. Leider war ich noch in diesem Land. Viele Grüße, Wolfgang.

I had never heard of a clay pan. Well, now I do see one. Well composed picture. I like the colour differences between the sand dunes and the clay pan with some vegetation between both. Also the contrast with the deep blue sky is brilliant.

Hi Achim,

The division in the photo are assets to the composition. The point of view takes our eyes toward the mountains in the background which is giving depth to the photo. The colors are well saturated. The nice blue sky is sending a light which is enhancing the different tints of colors of the scenery. Well done, have a nice day.

Interesting colour difference between red dunes and lighter sand down there. Oasis sounds a bit of exaggeration on this case. But at least those trees have fresh green leaves.

Hi Achim,
What a unique compo with curve of the light clay framed by the the red dune. The few green trees provide an important accent. I've never seen an oasis formed by a clay pan; interesting how the clay holds onto the water so the trees can survive.

The curving line is a dynamic eye-catcher, but I still can't figure out if we are dealing with muddy water or simply sand hehehe...

Most impressive is that mix of sand colors and the half circle seen that could be mistaken for a volcano crater at first glance!
Greenery decorates beautifully this "lunar landscape".
