Late in the afternoon the sky is a complex mix of cloud formations. Storms build on the horizon and rain will fall before dark. The gash in the foreground is the top of Sesriem Canyon

That is indeed a fantastic selection of clouds, and I love how the rain is so palpable in the air. Lovely detail on the storm off in the distance, the whole image feels electric!
All the best

The rain is evidently not very far away. Good choice of angle of view, giving full rein to that dramatic sky. Love the lighting and excellent colour contrasts.

Hello Rosemary ,
Simple , but beautiful . Because the sky is wonderful , contrasting with the red ground . We can only guess the top of the canyon . That incites the curiosity ...

Splendid colors of this capture. The sky looks amazing and seems to prepare for a storm. Well seen scene.
Sergiom (81765) 2012-12-14 5:01

Hello Rosemary, this is such a beautiful photo here! I love the strong colors and the low angle on the shot. Good contrast and sharpness. We certainly can see the storm coming, a very inspired title also.
rudiceuppens (555) 2012-12-14 7:23
The colours of the sky are amazing and on the horizon the rain is already falling. Beautiful composition,

You have delivered a setting, with the golden light on the canyon, but then drawn our attention to the ominous clouds in the sky. There appears to be a line of swirling funnels, a contrasting threat to the placid, quiet of the f/g.
My warm regards,

I think we can see already rain somewhere far away. Wondrful golden colours near Sesriem. Marvelous sky.
Have a nice weekend

A beautiful title to a beautiful picture! I love the way one can see the scattered clouds from here to far; as if looking into the future; and how one's view is taken from the foreground to the background, and back again ...
timecapturer (49288) 2012-12-15 3:31
glorious shot this. I think the rumours here are true and the approaching precipitation looks so wonderful. The sky and colouring of the fg make this superb image so exquisite. Delicious texturing and an outstanding presentation. Love it!
Enjoy your weekend - regards Brian.

Dobra ostrina snimka, kontrast, lepe boje.
Dobra kompozicija, lepo pokazana priroda i trenutak sa oblacima.
Moje cestitke na ulovljenom trenutku.
Nice view of the top of the canyon and the clouds that bring rain ...
Good image sharpness, contrast, beautiful color.
Good composition, good nature and timing shown with clouds.
My congratulations for the captured moment.
All the best.

If you could for a moment....try to imagine this photo without the clouds! you know how i feel about clouds! they make or break the scene.
having these clouds make it seem as if the sky is actually pushing down on the landscape below.
beautiful visual effect, and the clouds add so much depth.
barni (15751) 2012-12-15 11:53
Wow the sky is just perfect.
ACL1978 (7511) 2012-12-15 13:58
Amazing sense of scope here, Rosemary - the kind of vista we don't get at all in my hilly, forested region of New England, where you can see for seemingly endless miles. The bending of the thirds rule here to become more of a quarters rule is really effective, letting the big sky become even bigger by filling much of the frame. Great warm light throughout, which just emphasizes that dark patch off in the distance.
batalay (39129) 2012-12-15 21:02
In this well composed shot you present the "big sky" of Namibia, indeed an inspiring sky with a suggestion of rain in the horizon, and in the foreground a chasm. How dramatic the color are in the top two-thirds compared with the bottom third. Warm regards and season's greetings,
abmdsudi (55132) 2012-12-16 10:24
This a beautiful picture of the very dramatic situation and scenery in mixed weather conditions as we can see the rain falling as compared to the rest of the scene. You have grabbed the rare moment very well indeed. I love the vivid warm foreground creates such a stunning contrast and this has lots of impacts too. A spectacular show of nature indeed well taken, Congrats.
josepmarin (58359) 2012-12-16 10:31
the structure in thirds of your composition works effectively, because it gives a great space to a sky with a few very photogenic clouds, and creates a nice contrast with an amazing landscape.
We can see the curtain of rain in background, while the image keeps a great luminosity and a few beautiful colors.
A beautiful work.
eldancer1 (36343) 2012-12-17 9:37
This looks like a scene from Arizona desert! And, yes rain is also very welcome in the area. Great pov and dof with sharp details. Wonderful colors especially the clouds. Very well done, tfs.
vladic (4561) 2012-12-17 10:49
jemaflor (98771) 2012-12-19 11:04
Very beautiful landscape, I like the warl tone of this light perfectly captured, interesting sky with the direction of these clouds good depth effect.

Hi dear Rosemary
What a great way to describe it, a gash in the landscape. This is a very dramatic photo and a very dramatic landscape. The sky looks about to burst and the light it produces just before a storm is phenomenal, as it is here. Superb strong colours and beautiful levels of colour and texture. Love the Rule of Thirds framing and what the wide angle lens has done to the clouds. Top class.
