Road towards east of Walvis Bay.

Namib Desert has the highest and oldest sand dunes in the world. (Up to 300 metres and 30 million years!)
The Dune no. 7 on the left is the highest in Walvis Bay region. And there really wasn't shortage of sand away of the dunes either.

The apparent lack of contrast is due to harsh midday light. I really wish we had a chance to be there before sunset.

Very nice shot. I like the perspective and that strong spot of colour given by the street signal of sand. Contrasting with the colours of the landscape.
Well done.

Hi Kari.
Nice funny shot. It's true that the light is quite sharp which is a bit of a shame. But the shot is interesting all the same and the composition is good.
Regards, Rob

We just have to accept the conditions as they are when we travel as the chances are we won't be going back at a more opportune time. Good perspective view of the road and yes a funny sign; I would never have guessed! :P
Kath
PS I suppose you tried adding contrast in PP?

Välillä suomeksi...
Omaperäinen ja hauska kuva. Keltainen pystylinja oikeassa reunassa toimii hienosti katseenvangitsijana, joka johdattaa katseen noihin kahteen autoon. Valkoinen diagonaali katkoviiva ja pari valkoista pystytolppaa toimivat myöskin tärkeinä graafisina elementteinä koko kompositiolle. Liikennemerkki on toinen kuvalle olennainen graafinen ja hauska elementti – koko kuvan sielu. Panoraama-formaatti sopii kuvaan hyvin – itse asiassa harvinaisen hyvin. Siksipä halusin ihan piruuttani kokeilla vielä tiukempaa rajausta – näet lopputuloksen WS:na.

Terve Kari,
strong strong diagonal, nearly runs from one corner to the opposite one, as a result the perspective is terrific, I like the two vehicles in the far end, they provide sort of compensation for the nothingness that otherwise fills the frame, the sand sign being another strong focal point and splash of colors. Nice one Kari, and good luck with the weather !
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Good pic, Kari. I also liked the WS. What I like more is the POV, making a diagonal with a close sign and a couple of trucks almost out of sight. Very good indeed, not considering the midday light.

Beijo

Hi again Kari,
I can live with the lack of contrast here. You've shown it like it is and I like that because it gives a real 'feel' for the place. This is a desert, after all, and the pic is taken during when the sun is high above. From a photographic point of view, I like the strong diagonal line created by the road and its markings and the spot of colour from the road sign.
I guess it's because we have no deserts of this nature in NZ that I find them so amazing. From my trip to the US, I was almost overwhelmed by the vastness and tranquility of such places.
Interesting, informative note too!

Hugs,
Tony

Kari
Great "SIGN"! I took a picture of a similar sign in the desert. It just makes you smile
