On the Waterberg plateau.
We found really good footprints of a big animal on this red sand. The ranger-guide proudly told they were of a big leopard. I noticed two claws' prints (!!-those rangers!) and kind of doubted it could have been a leopard telling my boyfriend of cheetah prints with claws. I wasn't right either. Later, in Moscow, a friend of mine, who used to work with cheetah in that region, told that there are no cheetah on the plateau. She explained to me that that hyena's prints could be easily mistaken for cheetah's. So, it was a big hyena who had wondered on the road before we came there. So, we didn't have a luck to see cheetah in Etosha, and on Waterberg we didn't see even cheetah's footprints...
... And don't trust rangers! :-) |
