I love the way this small girl looks attentively at her grandmother’s face as they walk together after visiting the shop to buy milk. Ask most grandparents and they will tell you how much the relationship with their grandchildren means to them.
In Namibia, it is a common sight to see children in the care of their grandparents were they often remain until they reach school age. They then leave the rural areas (or ‘village’) and return to their parents who live in the urban areas where there is work
I have added a WS shot which you may find interesting. It also explains why the Grandmother's face is hidden!

Neighbours today !
What a delightful, candid, view of life.
Superb soft colours, and simple composition, possibly taken in haste, if you are like me with people shots, but the look you have captured is the star feature; Gorgeous !
Reminds me of the images that McCall-Smith conjures up with his stories; fairly or no, perhaps you can tell me !

Charming capture of this young lady looking lovingly at her grandmother. A nice colourful image with very good sharpness. Just a slight pity Grandma's face is in shadow.

The look and the face of the little girl is amazing indeed, too bad the grandmother's one is in the shadow....

This is a fine street-shot showing very clearly the affection across age barriers and generation gaps. It also tells usabout changing habits and new outlooks on life in Namibia, and anywhere in the world where old traditions are rapidly changing. I doubt that this little girl will dress like her grandmother when she reaches that age. The influence of German missionaries is waning!

A beautiful shot of old and new, in Namibia and in this family, Rosemary. I really like the look you captured on the girl's face here - full of love, respect, and curiosity. The old woman has a very distinctive look about her as well, with her faded floral dress and head cloth. Beautiful and meaningful portrait.

This is a fabulous photograph made all the more endearing by the lovely adoring look on the young girl's face as she stares upward toward her grandmother. But, as Gert so rightly says, that girl, now wearing "hipster" jeans and a short top revealing her midriff, will certainly not dress as her grandmother does in a few years' time.
Technically perfect, considering that this has been taken on a focal length of 300mm, with wonderfully clear and vibrant colours, perfect exposure and stunning details and sharpness.

I love the image of the granddaughter looking at her grandmother - not that she can really see her - I understand the poverty & simple lifestyles - but - what a strange way to dress - I imagine when this very lovely little girl grows up she will certainly have a different sense of dress.
Very nice image.

Hi Rosemary - great portrait of the girl and I do like gran's outfit - just a pity that we don't get a glimpse of her hidden face.

Les looks sont vraiment très différents mais c'est ce qui fait l’intérêt de cette photo amusante et bien cadrée.

a beautifully captured shot this. It tells a story so graphically and the quality of your execution goes a long way in making that come to life so expressively. Glorious detailing and a compelling presentation.
Enjoy your Sunday - Brian.

a charming portrait of grandmother and granddaughter that reminds me a lot of my time in Mafikeng.
There is a real connection between the two in the way the girl looks at her grandmother.
It shows the contrast between the older generations clinging to their traditions and the younger ones going with a more modern touch.
I like both your photos, the one in the WS nicely describing the scene closer.
have a good sunday

J'aime beaucoup le contraste dans le choix des vêtements entre générations différentes. C'est l'avenir et le passé dans la même photo très réussie.

A very well seen and captured every day life shot, the girls glance to her grandma is very nicely captured, and the fact that the ladies face is covered like this adds a wonderful air of mystery, despite the lovely light and bright colours. Your workshop is a great addition too, the glance the girl is giving the lens in that one is brilliantly captured! Really nice, thanks
All the best

I guess the face in the shadow even adds some mistery to the shot and the girl's attentive expression lets me guess she was probably saying something really interesting! The styles of their clothes look really different also. Good portrait!
