[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I normally don't care about posed shots. But this was their own idea, and they did it with pride and joy.

The river in the background is Okavango, more famous of it's delta and wildlife in Botswana. At this section the river forms the border with Namibia and Angola.
Angola, for long suffering of civil war and nearest official border crossing at least 100 km away, was so close but strictly off-limits to us.

Scanned slide. I chose to go B&W because the scene looks timeless, I think. Desaturated using mainly red channel on channel mixer to get better contrast with background. Colour version in the workshop.

Hi Kari,
This is not a regular posed shot. There is so much going on in the whole picture with all those kids that it's a very joyful scene to look at.
Look at the girls to te left....isn't she great ;-)
Very nice....also the using the channel mixer to add this effect.
Well done..!!!
Regards, Henk

Wow, great job Kari. You did capture the joy in their faces. The black and white works really well, not sure about the grain...

A very nice group shot here. The different poses of the children are attractive, but most of all their smiles are attracting the eye. Good perspective and defintion.
Good job!

Hi Kari,
I do think the B&W is a good choice here; it focuses us on the children's delightful expressions and poses. Interesting note about your PP work. I'm just beginning to work with different channels and haven't even considered B&W yet, but you note helps me think about color channels affecting contrasr.
Regards, Pat

Hi Kari...

The right decision to go with the tones you have...this is a very authentic image...each subject doing something interesting.

I am pleased to see it shot on film as I think it simply would not have the same effect if it was without imperfections...

a lovely job.

Hi Kari - wonderful group - I like the many expressions and their freshness. Very wise decision to go B&W, it greatly enhances your shot. Regards, Daniel
