To me, this is a special shot. It may not be a startling landscape to many of you but here in Namibia any sight of a river in flow is something to marvel at. The only perennial rivers here are the ones that form borders with our northern and southern neighbours. The huge land mass that makes up the country is dry and rivers flow only in very good rainy seasons and then for a few short hours.
This shot was taken on a return trip from the Caprivi Strip near the little town of Divundu, some 200 kilometres east of Rundu. Here the Okavango River breaks through a 4 metre high quartzite reef in its riverbed, which stretches over more than a kilometre in width and produces a set of rapids.

Une photo de paysage remarquablement réalisée avec une lumière et des couleurs extras. Un document en plus car il ne doit pas être courant de voir cette rivière en crue.

I like the way that the water sparkles as it laps the edge of the river. The colour of the sand is gorgeous and given a spectacular colour to the water. The green shots in the FG make this image for me - signs of fresh life in what is mostly a desert. Perfectly balanced composition and wonderful clarity.
Best wishes, Ann

I can understand your affinity for this shot of the river given your note about the dry landscape in Namibia. The tannin orange foreground with green grasses nicely complements the blue sky with the white clouds.

Colours are light are superb, whilst that wonderful sky creates a great feeling of depth with the river disappearing into the far distance. Excellent sharpness throughout.
I am sure you will enjoy your trip to Italy, a wonderful country with great food and wine and architecture and scenery to match. Having visited Bologna last September I am toying with the idea of going to Milan for a long weekend at the end of April.

the very beautiful and saturated colors are decidedly the biggest strength of this image, but I also enjoy simple and elegant composition with some single grasses in the foreground to diversify the landscape. The sky adds plenty of charm to this work too.
Well done and have a nice Sunday!

what an absolute delight this shot is. Water is everywhere here at the moment and it is difficult to image a land as dry as Namibia. This is such a beautiful mix of nature and its fine colours. Love the simplicity of the landscape here it tantalises the senses so beautifully. Just wonderful!
Have an enjoyable Sunday - B.

Ciao e buona domenica

a very interesting note...
so seeing these running bodies of water is something special?
things we often take for granted right?
For example Canada I think is the country with the most lakes in the entire World - probably something we take for granted i'm sure.
I like that you chose this paticular spot b/c we can see the water line and some hint of sand. The color is also unique, looking like a large pool of liquid Honey :)
those clouds are Killer!! Wish I could take them with me on every photo shoot. Sweet looking scene.

J'aime beaucoup le point de vue très bas, presque à la surface de l'eau, qui donne de la profondeur au plan d'eau. J'aime beaucoup la saturation des couleurs et le ciel magnifique.

The red colors of the earth coming through the water is really beautiful, especially in contrast to the vibrant blue of the sky. I find it hard to imagine a world without rivers nearby, as there are so many streams in Ireland and its really all I have ever know. I can imagine in this place the sight of water like this must be a rare, and very beautiful one.
As the water laps at the edge of the picture, I think I can see how it is sitting on top of the landscape, as underneath the ground seems as smooth as glass. That sky has such perfect clouds too, drama to match the beauty of the river.
Thanks as always

Absolutely amazing landscape post executed with truly charming palette of intensive colors! The achieved visual effect created by the different tones is absolutely beautiful and made the view so eye catching. Like it a lot! Perfectly executed work as always. Bravo!

une très belle vue d'une nature offrant une belle balette de teintes.
Le ciel avec ses nuages, complète très bien ta photo.

Coming from a drought-stricken country too, I can certainly appreciate why this photo is special. Water is like gold. I sometimes wish Ireland could sell us their rain, they'd get themselves out of the financial slump immediately! Beautiful colours and reflections. The wide angle has worked its magic on the clouds, making them look like they go on forever. The placement of the water reeds in the FG make a very effective lead-in for the image.
Best wishes, thanks for sharing and your kind thoughts for mum

You have some fantastic landscapes in your neck of the wood.
Super low Pov, skimming this super river in all it's glory and as you say such a precious commodity in parts of Africa.
Splendid colours well managed light.
Have a nice Monday.

Good evening Rosemary,
I can fully understand your enthusiastic note about the sight of a full river. Yet, you had managed a beautiful arrey of many colors in this photo.
from yellow/brown in foreground, through blue and green - up to the partly cloudy marvelous sky alofty.
a fine photojob done, cheers.
nikkitta (10418) 2014-01-20 15:47
Impresive landscape, quite understand it s for you special, because of the colors and the hour of the day it was taken preceded by an informative note, it seems a bit the same as happens in Egypt, waiting for rivers to flow
It seems the earth is orange, quite attractive color in contrast with the magnificent sky
Like the slender plants on the FG

I planned to come here many years ago and for one reason and others, we ended up in Kenya and Tanzania.
this is really a beautiful image of hte river the rich green vegetation along the river, the beautiful sky and cloud formation contrast nicely to the yellow golden river. All seem peaceful and calm. As always a very good quality photo.

hello Rosemary, it is difficult to believe it is Africa, it could be a view of Vistula, well, maybe Okavango is here a bit wider. very beautiful view. and in foreground it looks inviting for a swim. Water is so clean, sand looks soft. Amazing quite atmosphere.
Warm regrads malgo
ourania (21432) 2014-02-08 8:02
this is a beautiful view that also has a special meaning for Namibia. I like very much the way the dark green landscape stretches into the frame separating the two great and significant areas of the sky and the river. There's fascinating dynamism in the sky and a sense of tranquility and fragility in the lower part. I absolutely love the warm light and the colours. The way you portray the texture, clarity and mild movement of the precious water in the foreground, is superb. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend,
