The Himba people, men and women, are wearing a simple loincloth or goat skinned skirt.
They live mainly in camps scattered throughout the Kaokoland with their herds of cows and goats.
Every morning, after the women have applied their otjize*, they milk the cattle, before the young men of the village lead them out to graze. If there is nowhere to graze, the village may relocate, or the young men set up a temporary village with their stock.
*Butter, ash and ochre often mixed with an aromatic resin to protect themselves from the harsh desert climate.

I have seen your past post on the same tribe from the same region and I did enjoy them all the time. A lovely portrait and you seem to have captured so much details here. Love the exposure control and the sharpness of the subject captured. Very well shot indeed.

A natural pose, dood details despite the strong light, and what a wonderful contrast !

I think I recognise this girl from a previous group picture which you have shown us - she, I think, is the one on the left of that group!
But this individual portrait of her is wonderful with good eye contact even although she is closing her eyes a little against the strong sun. The addition of the goat which she is holding is an added bonus. The quality of your picture is excellent and we can examine all her jewellery and clothing perfectly. Don't these women have the most beautiful skin as a result of their daily application of otjize?

Sorry, it took me a while to get back to you. I have not been active much, and if I do, it is more reactive than proactive. Anyway, many great shot from you that I've missed. I'll start with this one since it kind of grab my attention right away with the strong contrast of the white goat and her dark dark red skind and hair. I wonder how long does it take them to cover themselves from head to toes. They seem to become part of the nature and earth. In this case she stood out so much from the background, if not for the shadows she look almost 2D because of the even color of brown. Once again a very unique portrait and daily life image combined in one.
Thanks. Will catch up again later. I hope all is well and you are enjoyed life in your new homeland.
