Photographer's Note
Another image from the series I took during our February trip down to Sossusvlei. Looking across the gravel plain towards the dunes, I was impressed by the beauty of the sky and felt it was more than worthy of a large chunk of the frame.
Thanks for the useful comments wrt the saturation of the upper sky. I have completed a workshop and would value any comments on the changes made. Rosemary

Dear Rosemary,
Beautiful view..
It's too bad that, for me, there are 2 "too much" things on this photos :
- The blue colours of the sky is too saturated
- The portion of the sky is too big, and make the composition look unbalance.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Yoga

Hi Rosemary,
in this vertical framing you have given a great space to the sky and the clouds, which are spectacular and give a great visual power to the image, though a part of the sky seems a bit over saturated.
But the landscape that we see in the low part of the photo is amazing and very beautiful, and offers us a few really fantastic colors.
It is a photo that attract our look already in the miniature, and that is enjoyed when we open it.
A nice work.
Best wishes,
Josep

Hello Rosemary ,
I agree with the two remarks of Yoga . But , about the big part for the sky , I understand your point of view , too . Because you wanted to show the entire splendid cloudy formation .
And the red dunes in the low part are so beautiful .

Hi Rosemary,
i think the photo still deserves two points, but about one thing i agree with "simplyoga", the sky is too blue. With regard to the composition it looks okay to me, the dramatic and almost overwhelming sense that you wanted to convey it's surely obtained with these proportions, but that extreme saturation takes out a bit of credibility to the naturalness of the image. Then it's obvious that the chromatic contrast is excellent and it works well.Anyway an absolutely wonderful desertscape.

Hello Rosemary,
This is indeed a stunning photograph. The lighting on the red dunes is absolutely amazing and I can also understand why you wanted to make such a feature of that amazing sky.
You do not actually mention whether or not you used a polarising filter or exactly what processing you did here. However, it is very easy to be critical of the dramatic sky and say that it has been over-processed but I would certainly hesitate to criticise those features at all: I have never been to Namibia (and I suspect that many of the critics here haven't either) but I have read from your prvious comments and elsewhere that skies in Namibia can be incredibly dramatic. There isn't a huge difference in your workshop either and that would further make me believe that your original picture actually approximates to what you saw when you took this photograph.
In other words, I like this one a lot!
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Rosemary,
very very beautiful shot. It is interesting that the little space you have given to the mountains does not make them look little. Their colour and the clouds formations are stunning.
Bravo

Bonsoir, Rosemary,

Hello,
Good idea to have unbalanced the composition with much more cloudy sky. In fact, at the end it is giving an other feeling about those giant dunes.
I would have said something about the high saturation but I saw your WS and it is more in line with my idea.
Nice landscape shot.
Yves.
