Photographer’s Note

Another grainy photo, taken at ISO 400 with my small IXUS that is not perfect for this ; I desaturated a bit the orange glow, but there was anyway a yellow feel due to the old lightbulb...
In the heart of the medina (old city) in Tangier, a tiny space between 2 houses with a very active oven : it is not here that the bread is prepared, the place is too tiny, about 2 metres wide... These 2 persons were very busy and agreed to be taken in photo, but no time to talk nor curious to see my LCD : the guy on the left was constantly in and out of the shop, delivering the fresh bread to the housewives who were waiting for it or to a baker who was preparing the dough somewhere else, in association with the owner of this oven.

In every Moroccan city, town and village there is, for every neighbourhood regrouped around a mosque, such a communal oven (AND also, traditionally : a "hammam" ("Turkish bath"), a fountain to wash the clothes etc, plus in villages, a mill to produce wheat flour from the grain).

I'm sure that you won't regret having a look at this so cute schoolgirl bringing bread prepared at home by her mother to the oven, and she'll bring it back home a few hours later : a daily chore for the housewives as well !
