Photographer’s Note

A photograph which does not compete with the beauty of certain landscapes and yet…
This is a Chleuh village, Berber people living in the High Atlas, the Anti-Atlas and the valley of Souss, in the south-west of Morocco.

It is so well integrated into the landscape, it is impossible to remotely see it on the mountain.
The “Berber” word could be derived from the Greek barbaroi then Romains barbarus, recovered by the Arabs in barbar and finally by the French with Berber.

It indicates above all “people which one does not understand the language”, i.e. the foreigners. By extension, the word meant “wild” or “not-civilized”.

As for the Chleuh term, the French made it the nickname of the Germans during the two world wars!

This village is very insulated and inaccessible. It resembled of nothing that one could see in Ouarzazate.
This repost is just a better picture of the same village.
