Three kilometers to the west of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun lie the ruins of the town of Volubilis.Volubilis features the best preserved excavations in this part of northern Africa dating from the Roman Empire. In 1997 the site was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
In antiquity, Volubilis was an important Roman town situated on the westernmost border of Roman conquests. It was built about 40 C.E., probably on the site of a previous Carthaginian settlement from the 3rd century B.C.Volubilis takes its name from the Berber name Alili meaning Oleander flower, which is common in the area.Volubilis was the administrative center of the province in Roman Africa called Mauretania Tingitana.

This cloudy light is the best to make arquitectonical photos, and it works much even better when the subject are ruins, like in this photo. Very nice one Tatiana. Greetings from Madrid.

PS: Itīs funny, I visited this place 17 years ago and there were not any stork nest. Time change things. Take care.

Three things I really like about this photo. First, the formal balance is very suited for this architectural photo. Second, the cloudy weather provides for an interesting sky. And third, I like the stork nest atop the pillar to the far left. Interesting place, well captured.

Ryan
