The first of a few shots I took along the wall of the Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakesh. For those that have been there you will probably know exactly where this is. For those that are planning to go, you will definitely see the Mosque as it is a major landmark in the city and can be seen from the many slivers of view in the souq and from any higher vantage point in the city. It is definitely a sight to see and be a part of.
Wander around the mosque, especially at dusk, and you will see a multitude of Marrakesh residents along with many other sights, sounds and smells of Morocco. The cigarette sellers, water sellers who look like they are something out of a colorful circus, the homeless Koutoubia women and occasional man with a monkey on his shoulder or cobra around his neck. I have never really experienced anything even close. This not even to mention Djemaa el-Fna which is where all these people are coming or going to.

As far as the actual photo: just a little cropping and the frame. I did not sharpen at all but if anyone thinks it looks soft let me know and I'll repost a sharper image. No other post processing done.

This wall does look like its a famous wall for photographing - ive seen it on the site before. The shadows created by the lamp are really interesting, and the scene leads to great composition options.
Cheers,
dave.

Hi John ,
This also an excellent shot. The lamp is well balanced with the person. Very good use of background as well.

John,
Wonderful image. That long shadow of the lamp is fantastic together with the old man and the plain background make this a very grpahic shot. Superb work.

Cheers
Peter

very well seen, john!
perfectly diagonal placement of the main subjects with the lamp's shadow almost creating a connection with the man, or even chasing him - who himself is chasing his own shadow?
good work!

eh eh hi John :)
A pleasure to see you posting this one which looks like to mine, i don't know if you saw mine before your trip but if not i can say we have same eye :)
You did well too, i love the inclusion of this man, typical man of marrakech in the compo, shadow is for sure the must of this wall with those lamps.
Very good ;)

Great capture:) I like the composition very much

Hello John
Marvellous photograph! The shadow of the lamp does look like a giant claw following the ma, who is oblivious of 'it's intentions' ! Excellent once again & if I may say, I am really impressed with your gallery. You have a fantastic repertoire of images there.
Regards
Angshu

I have to give a critique to all your series of Marrakesh. They all have something different... and honestly, I love that place.. someday I will be there.
Good photo my friend
cheers
Jorge
