So as to complete my first dune shot and the camel ride picture, I present a great angle view of this magnificent place : the Chebbi Erg at sunset near Merzouga, close to the Algerian border. I guess I was aiming at north-east.
No strong subject this time – I’m aware of that. My purpose is humble today : share this desert view to let you better imagine the place where I took the previous one. A kind of rear travelling
As told before, I was only mid-way to the top of the highest dune of Merzouga, not even on the top and I was already amazed by the vastness of the place, the beauty of the sun reflection on the sand. That was a wonderful moment and I really need to go back for more days in such a desert.
Like the previous picture, I needed to adjust the gamma balance so as to restore the original sunset tones. That’s all. I hope the picture didn't suffered too much of the strong compression...

Beautiful composition. I love the silky smooth foreground. The ripples across the sand are excellent. Well seen.

Very nice picture and very nice colors. The lighting is perfect and so are all the dunes. Just love it!!
Too bad that there are some car and camel tracks.

So warm colors! I like the velvet like texture at the foreground, and think that if you crop it just the low part of the picture could turn into another excelent and intriguing picture. Great job, as the others, Steven.

Beautiful picture. The Sahara is amazing, such a strange place. It's nice to the reddish dunes here as opposed to the light yellow ones I saw in southern Tunisia, I guess it has to do with minerals and stuff.
Good composition with the water hole (?) in front of the larger dunes, makes the view a bit more variation. Colors are wonderful.

was it as red as it looks? I love the colors. looks almost like it was taken on Mars.
the top is not so interesting. I like the smooth look of the lower half.

i think the first review i worte for a photo here was one of yours and its still my favorite photo. THe reds that you pull out of the desert shots are fantastic. As you say there is no one specific subject of the photo but the dunes themselves. You might be able to concentrate on that and the patterns of the dunes by mabe cropping out even a little bit more of the sky.

Colour warm, beautiful light, sweet texture. I like the composition and the tracks of life which seem swarmed at the top of the image. In this unlimitedness, a little of life cuts the solitude of this landscape, in my humble opinion. Bravo!
Couleur chaude, belle lumière, texture douce. J'aime la composition et les traces de vie qui semblent grouillées au haut de l'image. Dans cette immensité, un peu de vie coupe la solitude de ce paysage, à mon humble avis. Bravo!

The colours of the sand are amazing! The shadows and curves in the sand are beautiful. The dunes look so smooth and soft I want to reach out and touch them.
The composition is just right, in my opinion.

Djamil ! (Joli en arabe), vous avez choisi le bon moment pour capter cette image gràce à la lumière rasante qui fait apparaître le relief.
Un soleil au zénith aurait donné une image plate.

Texture is strongly conveyed. This is one helluvah of a desert-heaven! Very good shot.

So beautiful desert scene. Beautiful ondulations on the infinite sand. Very good deepnes and perspective. Nice horitzon, and effective proportions earth vs sky. Superb definition.

Beautiful warm picture and smooth pattern. Makes me remember of the Australian Outback. It even looks better wenn you crop the foreground so you won't see the car tracks.

Dans le désert, il faut avoir la patience d'attendre le bon moment, la bonne lumière... A chaque heure sa couleur de sable... Très belle image.

Hi steven I was in Merzouga last april but I was not able to shoot one like that! great colors and DOF.. Since you are in PARIS, maybe we should meet and have a drink to talk about our photos, if you'd like that too. I like your captures very much and think we sahre some interests in common. Eric

I love the desert colours here; they are always best in the early evening and at sunset. Teh soft velvety textures are terrific. I love deserts, but haven't seen this one...yet.

Très belle celle la aussi, on dirait une mer de sable rouge ocre, j'adore cette étendue de sable, à perte de vue, laissant place à une totale évasion qu'elle soit physique ou mentale :))
